Hiraizumi
Temples, Gardens and Archaeological
The making of Buddhist “Pure Land” Sites representing the Buddhist Pure
Year of Inscription: 2011 Land is a group of five sites from the
late 11th and 12th centuries AD in
Hiraizumi, Iwate Prefecture, Japan.
They are Chusonji, Motsuji, Mount
Kinkei, Kanjizaio-in and Muryoko-in.
Hiraizumi‘s most famous attraction,
Chusonji was established in 850 AD as
a temple of the Tendai sect of
Buddhism. Konjikido is a hall ⾦⾊堂 Konjikido(⽇本 Japan: 2012)
completely covered in gold. It dates
back to 1124 AD and stands inside
another building for protection.
Chusonji is Japan’s prime National
Treasure and it has more than 3,000
national treasures and important
