Laticifers: Fused tube like cells filled with a fluid called Latex. They resemble xylem
vessels and so they are called latex vessels.
❑ Two types:
1- Non articulate: Also called Latex Cells and they originated from
single cell
2- Articulate: Also called compound laticifers, and they arise from a series
of cells and these cells arranged end to end
.Laticiferous ducts release their milky secretions out when they are cut open. Some
lateces have great economic importance especially the hydrocarbon substance called
caoutchouc, the source of rubber, other lateces are of medical interest like that of
papaver, source of opium.
