              Educational Goals:

 Be able to classify monosaccharides as either aldoses or ketoses.

 Be able to classify monosaccharides by the number of carbons they contain.

 Given a Fischer projection of a monosaccharide, be able to identify it as a

                   D-sugar or L-sugar.

 determine the number of stereoisomers that are possible.

 Given a Fischer projection of a monosaccharide, and be able to identify

                   chiral form
 Define the term anomer and explain the difference between α and β

                   anomers.
                Understand and describe mutarotation.

 Be able to draw Haworth structures of sugars and Identify the anomeric
                   carbon.

 Be able to understands the different reactions of Sugars

 Be able to carry out chemical test for sugars

                                                                      Monosaccharides
