Plant cell ةيتابنلا ةيلخلا
All the higher plants are built-up of small living units called cells. Although they are at first
more or less of the same size, they grow and change into size and shape approximate to the
functions they take in the life of the plant as a whole.
As a model of the cell, we can examine the epidermal cells of the outer epidermis of onion
to get the typical plant cell.
✓ Each cell consists of living and non-living materials, the latter being produced
by the former as the cell is developing.
✓ A hypothetical plant cell has three distinct regions;
(1) the cell wall;
(2) the protoplast; and
(3) the vacuoles.
✓ The protoplast is living but the cell wall and vacuoles are non-living.
✓ The plant cell possesses an outer protective covering called the cell wall. Within
this wall is the protoplasm, which can be differentiated into a granular fluid, the
cytoplasm, and the nucleus.
