Parasitic diseases

Measures for prevention of communicable diseases at schools:
1. Immunization:
The school nurse is responsible for knowing about current
immunization schedules and should also know when communicable
diseases outbreak occurs that may affect children.
The immunization schedule given for school children in Egypt:
Booster doses of DT in 1st and 4th year of primary school.
Doses of meningitis in 1st year of primary school, 1 year of

preparatory school and 1 year of secondary school.

2. Healthful school environment; proper ventilation, safe water supply,
cleanliness, sanitary refuse and sewage disposal, vector control.
3. Providing education about health issues and promoting healthy
living habits as proper nutrition, exercises, adequate rest, and
personal hygiene.
4. Referral if necessary.
5. Providing a less favorable environment for the micro-organism
growth. By identifying children with communicable diseases and
excluding them from school as policies indicate;
Hepatitis A 21 days
Whooping cough 18 days
Mumps 14 days
Measles 14 days
Chicken pox 14 days
Scarlet fever 10 days
G. Measles 7 days
6. Readmission to school after sickness, the child should be examined by
the nurse before readmission to school.
