2. Screening tests:
These are tools (tests) applied to healthy students to detect students with
particular health problem that requires further evaluation by a specialist.
These tests are performed by school nurse , social workers and
teachers. It is one task of the school nurse is to organize and perform
variety of screening programs for children. It assists the early
identification of possible health problems when abnormalities are noted
in physical, psychological and social health status. The nurse plays a
vital role in referring the child for further evaluation and for correction.
It includes;
A. Vision and hearing screening: its purpose is to identify children with
potential problems in visual acuity and muscles balance which can
have an impact on the child ability to learn. So treatment can begin in
early. Ideally, all students should be screened annually. The nurse
plays a vital role in following up students who failed.
B. Height and weight management: A school nurse annual
measurement can provide valuable information for care givers, health
care professionals, alerting them to abnormalities in height, weight
before they become a dangerous health problem.
C. Detecting students with speech defects
D. IQ assessment.
