SCHOOL HEALTH
4- Emergency care and first aid services :
It is care for urgently diseased or injured students and staff members .
It is the responsibility of school centers for two main concerns;
1. Basic first aid care for a child school and staff with an illness or
injury.
2. Emergencies requiring transport and more extensive treatment at a
hospital.
This implies the following:
Preparing a suitable room for emergency care with proper supplies
and equipments.
Performing training programs for students, teachers in first aid
procedures and how to handle emergency situations.
Prevent injuries from happening in School.
Immediate care and referral.
Notify parents and authorities.
Common medical emergencies:
Appendicitis,
Gastroenteritis,
Renal colic,
Epileptic fits
Fainting
Severe injuries or accident.
C. Curative Aspects :
School Health Program provides curative services to school students.
This service is provided in
School clinics provided by general practitioners (GP) and school
nurses.
A number of affiliated hospitals or services (students health
insurance hospital)
Medication administration and monitoring:
Another important service the school as curative services provided
by nurse is the monitoring and administration of medication of children
while at school as with chronic illness such as seizure disorder, diabetes,
attention deficit hyperactivity. The medication must be stored in a
