At the same time, viewers and fans
will be affected by the writers’
strike in a different way. Scheduled
programming can and likely will be
implemented, but without new
programming the channels and
networks that viewers rely on
could suffer a difference in quality
with fewer original films and
television series. As the strike
could potentially lead to an influx
of in reruns and recycled content,
satisfaction of viewers may be
significantly reduced. Ultimately, the outcome of the
strike is still unknown and will
affect those involved, directly and
indirectly, at many levels. The
resumption of production will be a
crucial factor in the livelihoods of
the consumers, writers, workers,
and community as a whole. Until
then, all that can be done to
combat the effects of the writers’
strike is to work together to
understand the various issues at
play. It is only by understanding
the needs, wants and values of all
involved that a successful
outcome can be achieved.
In this endeavor, we need to remember a simple fact: everyone
has an essential role to play in achieving community-wide peace.
