Dependent Eligibility Requirements
FULL-TIME AND PART-TIME (30 OR MORE HOURS PER WEEK)
Disabled Dependent Child
Disabled children over age 26 are eligible dependents if the child is unmarried, is mentally or physically disabled and unable to earn a living, is reliant on you for primary support and maintenance (50 percent or more), and has been covered as your dependent child on your HCSC health coverage before turning age 26.
Please visit myHR for more information on submitting the required documentation of disability.
Eligible Dependents for Life Insurance
You may cover the following dependents for life insurance:
• Your legal spouse (including common-law spouse in MT, OK and TX), domestic partner and civil union partner (IL only).
• Your unmarried dependent children or unmarried children of your domestic partner who are under age 26 and dependent on you for primary support (50 percent or more). Children under legal guardianship are not eligible for life insurance.
• Unmarried children of any age who are mentally or physically disabled and unable to earn a living. Medical documentation is required.
Enrollment in HCSC medical or dental coverage is not required to enroll your dependents in dependent life insurance. If your spouse or children become HCSC employees, they are no longer eligible as your dependents for life insurance. If you and your spouse are both employed at HCSC, only one of you may carry HCSC life insurance coverage for your dependent children.
