Cast
Alison Gilroy - Beryl
Alison’s first show with WBOS was “Annie Get Your Gun” way back in 1998. Since then she has taken part in many productions both as a principal and an ensemble member with WBOS as well as other local companies at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle and the Tyne Theatre. Her favourite roles, up until now, were Peggy Sawyer in “42nd Street” and Brooke Wyndham in “Legally Blonde”. However, playing the character role of outspoken and coarse Beryl in this production, whilst not as energetic, may have just surpassed those treasured memories of tap dancing on giant coins and singing whilst skipping.
Alison would like to apologise in advance, particularly to her parents, for her use of bad language during the show. She has managed to save up a small fortune with use of a swear box in rehearsals.
Amanda Forster - Cass
Amanda was almost at the point of stage retirement when Made in Dagenham came along and tempted her back into the spotlight; credits to Beryl......and she’s exceptionally glad she did!
A member of Whitley Bay Operatic Society for nearly 25 years, Amanda has had the opportunity to perform in a huge variety of shows with some very talented local performers. Highlights include, in no particular order, Milly (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers), Vi Moore (Footloose) Hope Harcourt(Anything Goes), Lola( Copacabana) and the “ I”(Miss Anna) in The King and I. Alongside this, Amanda also spent several years supporting the development of of younger members through Whitley Bay - Next Generation, some of which are performing tonight too.
Off stage, Amanda lives in Whitley Bay with her other half and is “soccer mom” to her 2 teenage, football-loving daughters and spends most of her spare time playing the role of “Moms Taxi”
Jack Hawkins - Harold Wilson
Jack is quite new to the North East am dram scene having only moved up to this lovely part of the world in 2020. In 2018, Jack played in the orchestra pit for Made in Dagenham and has had a soft spot for the show ever since. He’s delighted to be making his debut with Whitley Bay Operatic Society as Harold Wilson and would like to thank the cast and crew for being so lovely and making him feel so welcome.
Nicola Hewett - Barbara Castle
Nicola began performing in 2010 with Tynemouth Operatic Society, where she took to the Playhouse stage in My Fair Lady and Beauty and the Beast. Since then, she’s played the roles of Maureen in Rent, Paulette in Legally Blonde and most recently Diva in Priscilla Queen of the Desert at The Tyne Theatre.
This is Nicola's third show with WBOS and she is excited to be playing such an iconic role. Ideal World has become her favourite song to sing and she thanks Caroline at 'Vocal Connection' for helping her with her performance. Outside of performing, Nicola is in the final year of her statistics PhD.
