Prospective customers wanting to maintain that authentic look on their home may opt for the strip and re-lay of their existing slate roof. This reinstallation does have its drawbacks, however - often up to 50% of the slate will be damaged during removal. Findley’s keeps a wide stock of authentic natural used slate in order to top up customers wishing to re-roof using their existing slate. Often the slate has to be reholed and hand graded, meaning a lot of time is spent working on this type of project. The results, however, can be fantastic.
Why choose Reclaimed Slate?
Since the closure of many of the UK slate mines,
these reclaimed slates are becoming harder and harder to get hold of. Reclamation stock is diminishing every year and its becoming more difficult to find exact colour matches and exact sizes in these instances. Speak to your roofing estimator about topping up your slate holding from our stock and see what is available.
Sizes:
Most traditional slates from the past are in smaller sizes - often 14x7”, 16x8” etc. The weight per metre on most roofs will not exceed 35 kilos.
Workmanship:
Findley’s have worked many years alongside what’s known in the industry as ”Master Slaters”, many of these work for companies by the names of Malone’s and Matthew Charlton’s - and, when these companies closed, Findley’s took on many of their staff. Today, at Findley’s we have 68 staff of which only nine are “Master Slaters”. Talk to your roofing estimator about the availability of having these men on your site.
