 EPDM installation
Installing a EPDM flat roof is a very delicate process to perfect. The first stage is to remove the current material from the flat roof and assess the condition of the boards. If the flat roof is leaking then the boards will need to be replaced to ensure a good finish.
The next step is to either overboard the existing boards (if the roof has not been leaking or absorbed any water from previous damage) and secure the new OSB3 18mm boards to the flat roofing area. This process is particularly important as these are the foundations on which the EPDM is installed.
As with most aspects of roofing and building, a job is only as good as the foundations. Based on the area this may require some complex joinery to ensure good foundations or a slight pitch might have to be added to the roof to enhance water flow from the flat roof to guttering systems.
Once the boarding and joinery is in place, the EPDM is carefully measured to the area of the flat roof. The EPDM is then secured to the boards with an acrylic based adhesive (this allows the EPDM to flex, expand and contract with temperature). Any joins in the EPDM are seamed together with EPDM joining strips.
Once secured, the EPDM is flashed to the walls of the property by using an aluminum trim or it is secured over the edge of the flat roof using a
UPVC trim.
Any pipes or flues through the flat roof are then finished with rubber cones and liquid rubber or with rubber joining strips.
