Brickwork repointing
Brickwork repointing should be carried out roughly every 30 - 50 years. Factors which will accelerate the need to have your building repointed may include:
• Coastal areas with significant salt spray
• Buildings that are exposed to storms
• High altitude, elevated buildings
• Properties built with a weak sand and cement mix
When brickwork repointing recedes more than 5-10mm it is often an early indication that the property needs to be repointed. Water running against the brickwork is absorbed by the porous mortar joint and can cause significant dampness and internal cavity damage.
