    COMEDY
The Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle is the place to be for live comedy on Sunday 11th September as Shaparak Khorsandi visits, bringing her nostalgia-centric show “It Was The 90s!” along. Khorsandi is certainly no stranger to even casual British comedy fans with frequent media turns; she is opinionated, intelligent and a highly accomplished maestro of crowd control with veteran experience. As a decade that towers over much contemporary creative output, it always seems like time to revisit the 1990s directly. And as a formative period for Khorsandi, there will be some electric material to mine for her always-exciting live show. Attendees can expect a unique and individual take on the apparent peak of Western society, or as Khorsandi puts it: “How does the decade of binge drinking and walks of shame look now without snakebite and black tinted specs?” This touches on the direction of proceedings as well as hinting at the fact that Khorsandi has been tackling such topics for longer than many of her fellow comics MICHAEL JOHNSON

shows across a veritable Yellow Pages of venues, whether in the North East or beyond, significantly sharpening and widening his arsenal simultaneously. This is a model any aspirant comic with stream-of-consciousness skills, experimental tendencies and ambitious dreams can seek to study. On this basis, tickets to a show like this at The Stand sell themselves, a near-enough stand-alone opportunity to dive into the midst of the action, literally alongside a thriving comedy talent in their prime.
