            CELEBRATES 20TH
ANNIVERSARY
Happy Birthday to you, or rather, Happy Birthday to KU. This month, KU Stockton is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The venue first opened back in 2002 and Jimmy and the team have been bringing live bands, legendary artists, great music, and good times to audiences ever since. The live music and late bar, based on Prince Regent Street in the heart of Stockton, is an independent business built up of a team of strong believers in sticking to the true grassroots of the music scene. As such, they have been playing host to and promoting live tour shows from a mixture of vibrant local artists on the scene and also acts from around the globe who are welcomed with open arms. To celebrate their 20th anniversary, KU will host a special event on Friday 18th November that will span across two stages and includes three aftershow rooms. The event will celebrate a mixture of some of the venue's favourite acts from their past. Headlining the event will be Liverpudlian sextet Red Rum Club who will be bringing their ‘80s wild western/indie influence to the North East. The group are renowned for their poetic and catchy lyrics that are layered over DIY melodies. The two-stage line-up will also include more Liverpool lads who have a country/indie-style in the form of The Hummingbirds, recently reunited guitar- heavy four-piece The Brightlights, Stockton’s own alternative indie rockers We Tibetans, and more homegrown talent in the form of Middlesbrough-born brothers Shore who create their sonic sphere from a mixture of ‘60s, ‘90s and indie inspiration. The party won’t end after the live bands stop playing though as there will be three aftershow events including the original Noughties DJ Team taking you through the night in The Social Room (located next door and owned by the KU team). Some people celebrate a 20th anniversary with a gift of china, but KU are going big with their smashing super show that is simply an event not to be missed. So head on down to Stockton on Friday 18th November and celebrate this momentous occasion. It’s not every day a local, independent music venue turns 20! GEORGINA SHINE
