NOVEMBER GIGS
AT NE VOLUME MUSIC BAR, STOCKTON
From indie and metal to rap and alt-rock, we have something for every music taste this month at our very own NE Volume Music Bar in Stockton. We kick off our month of gigs on Wednesday 2nd November as indie outfit Rose Malus, doom- rock band Brass Eyed Dragons and metal five-piece Nation in Ruin battle it out in our first Battle of the Bands semi-final. A day later, we welcome indie outfit George Bailey back to Stockton after their superb set in September, with support coming from Jake Diaz (he also plays guitar in George’s band) and newcomer, Paul Michael Gray. On Friday 4th November we welcome a bit of a celebrity to Stockton. Dan Donnelly, now residing in Stockton, grew up in Belfast and rose to local fame with acoustic live favourites, Watercress. Dan has been a full touring member of British indie-rockers The Wonder Stuff and co-wrote their top 40 album, '30 Goes Around The Sun'. He is also the lead singer with French supergroup The Celtic Social Club and indie rockers, The Wooden Face – and he’s also a member of The Levellers. Support comes from Frazer Lambert and Steve McCormick. Fans of alt-rock are in for a treat on Saturday 5th November as we bring Wales alt-rock outfit Apathy Avenue to Stockton. Support comes from Teesside heavy melodic three-piece Burn the Valley (influenced by Radiohead, The Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana) as well as up-and-coming rock/metal band, Stone Cold Abyss. Fresh from playing a raucous set at Twisterella, Viia make their Stockton debut on Wednesday 9th November, with support coming from Teesside alternative noise/punk- rock outfit Weld and alt-pop/rock band, Mascara’s Lies. And just a day later, we host our highly-anticipated second Battle of the Bands semi-final featuring indie-pop band Provenance, northern grungy, funky, trancey dream-rock outfit Labyrinthine Oceans and indie four-piece, Cellos. Expect a more laid-back and intimate evening on Friday 11th as we host a candlelight session with Lost State of Dan, Nicholas Chapman and Jake Holt. You may well know Dan from his work with Hartlepool outfit, Lost State of Dance. His solo work is more refined, a little more laid-back, but still soulful, still eighties-inspired, and still bloody brilliant. Other notable highlights in November include the return of indie outfits Sarah Johnsone, Common Courtesy and The Avelons on Saturday 12th, our Battle of the Bands final on Wednesday 16th, Patrick Jordan and High Tide on the 17th, Funke and the Two Tone Baby on the 18th and a metal special on the 21st featuring Over the Under, Mortal Chains and Nation in Ruin. Garage-pop trio Sam, Tilly and Dan bring their sublime guitar riffs and gorgeous harmonies to stunning Newcastle venue The Cluny on Friday 11th November. Championed by BBC 6 Music’s Mark Riley and Radio Wales, this hardworking band from Monmouthshire embark on a 20-date autumn UK tour after a busy and successful summer of festivals. Their stripped-back live shows have earned them an impressive following since their formation in 2016, and their first EP, released in 2021, also received great acclaim. KIM BLUE
