Speech and Language Support for 3-5s%u00a9 Elklan Training Limited 2023 148S7o Use repetitive stories e.g. %u2018Run run as fast as you can you can%u2019t catch me I%u2019m the Gingerbread man.%u2019o Act out stories.o Story sacks - make these available for children to explore / play with as well as using during %u2018Story time%u2019.o Cut out pictures which can be magnetic or velcroed on to a board for children to explore.o Play materials in the home corner e.g. 3 teddies/beds/bowls for Goldilocks. o Small World toys to reinforce stories.o Puppets. Large and finger puppets.o Telling stories with sound effects/musical instruments.o Story Maps.(Slides 215-217)%u2022 Use the slide to explain how to retell a story with a small group (or possibly a whole group) of children. The supporting adult draws a small picture of the first part of the story and encourage the children to say what happens next and draws the next picture etc.%u2022 The story must be very familiar to the children.%u2022 It is a different way to explore stories but requires good listening, memory, concentration and language skills so are more appropriate for certain children.%u2022 Story Maps were developed by Pie Corbett.%u2022 Refer to learners ELB. pages 82-83.
