These pictures can be printed from your Tutor Area of the Elklan website too). o Explain that there are 2-3 children engaged in the activity. One or two of the children are developing their language and learning following a typical pattern but one will have SLCN of some kind. Give each group a card with a description of a child with SLCN.o Play Planning sheet (See handout section).o Sheet of flip chart paper and a pack of coloured pens.%u2022 Learners are to think how this play situation could be used to promote the language, vocabulary learning and communication of all the children AND the different support to be given to the child with SLCN.%u2022 The differentiated support should be shown in a different colour to make the ideas stand out.%u2022 Learners are to present their ideas as a poster.%u2022 Explain that they will be doing this as part of their Learning Log using a child they know who has SLCN.%u2022 Tutor should circulate, check that the groups are understanding the task and offer support.%u2022 After about 20 minutes, ask learners to display the photo of the activity, the details about the child with SLCN and their poster.%u2022 Ask if the group is happy for others to take photos of the posters. %u2022 All walk round and look at the work of the other groups.%u2022 Answer any questions and queries.8.9.4 Play and the child with SLCN%u2022 Summarise just how important it is to look at the play skills of any child who has delayed SLCN.%u2022 It is the best way to get into the mind of a child and to appreciate his understanding of his world and how ready his mind is for language.%u2022 Planning and supporting play is also the best way to help a child to develop his language and communication. It%u2019s fun too!
