Speech and Language Support for 3-5sS3%u2022 Discuss the difference between strategies to support attention and listening in comparison to a planned listening activity. For example, modifying the environment - being aware of reducing background noise - is a strategy that supports the whole group, whereas planning a specific adult-led listening activity e.g. sound lotto for a child, is a planned listening activity for an individual. Planned adult-led focused activities tend to have more directly measurable outcomes. Refer to ELB. page 26-27 for strategies/games to support listening and attention. %u2022 It is important to provide small group listening opportunities for the children and to check that every child engages because it is often those who avoid these opportunities who are those that would benefit most. Ref: Dockrell research.%u2022 The activity needs to be planned and follow the interests of the children whenever possible. This is challenging.%u2022 Ask learners in groups to plan one specific planned listening activity to support a child of 4 years who loves physical play outside for 5 minutes.%u2022 Feedback as a group.%u2022 Discuss how progress can be monitored and measured. How could this be achieved during the activities that participants have suggested.3.4.3 Working with families(ELB. 21-22, Slide 50)%u2022 Poor listening and attention can be very difficult for parents at home.
