Features of business continuity planning
Business Continuity Planning has three complementary features:
A) Risk Reduction
B) Emergency Plan
C) Business Continuity Plan
The key tasks in Business Continuity Planning are to
n identify which operations and supporting activities need to be
restarted after a disaster,
n the maximum acceptable time limits by which they must
restart, and the resources needed to restart them;
n identify contingencies for the required resources;
n select a cost-effective strategy for restarting operations;
n develop the BCP to guide and direct restart of operations;
n test the BCP, train staff in how to use it, and keep it up to
date.
If a BCP is to be correctly constructed and operate
successfully, it must involve all levels of management, and
must cover the following:
n Action to be taken following a disaster
n Staff responsible for specific tasks;
n Essential operations and systems;
n Actions required to restart operations;
n Emergency data processing arrangements;
