        B. Evolution of Management Thought

The practice of management has been in evidence right from the time human

beings joined together to carry out various activities. However, the

development of a theoretical framework of management came about only with

the industrial revolution in the UK and the USA in the late 18th and 19th

        centuries.

As industrialisation and international trade and commerce developed, the need

for the systematic study of managerial aspects became evident. Some thinkers

and analysts tried to synthesise the observations they made and the

knowledge they gained and put forward what are known as different

approaches to management or different schools of management thought.
