02/03/1970.
3. Inclusion of personal injury and or death to
passengers, in the Motor Vehicles Act, 1939 by Act
56 of 1969 w.e.f 02/03/1970.
4. Insertion of chapter VII-A with Section 92-A to 92-
E Motor Vehicles Act, 1939 relating to payment of
compensation of Rs. 25,000/- for death and Rs.
12,500/- for permanent disablement based on the
principle of no-fault liability, by Act 47 of 1982 w.e.f
01/10/1982.
5. Insertion of Section 103-A to 103-B in the Motor
Vehicles Act, 1939 relating to payment of
compensation to the 'hit and run' victims by by Act
47 of 1982 w.e.f 01/10/1982.
Repeal and replacement of Motor Vehicle Act, 1939 by
Motor Vehicles Act 1988 that came into force from 01/
07/1989. Notable changes introduced in the said Act so
far as it relates to motor third party insurance are as
under:
1. Unlimited liability (actual award as against limited
compensation) compensation for personal injury and
