Longfield Community Hospice is based in Minchinhampton and serves the population of
Gloucestershire. We are looking for people to sign up and join in the ‘Festive Reindeer
Romp’ to raise funds and help us support their patients and families this Christmas. Due
to current Covid restrictions the Hospice has re-invented the walk so people can take
part wherever they are.
You can choose the 5 or 10 mile run or walk with a festive reindeer theme on Sunday
th
6 December at a time to suit you. And if the 6th doesn’t work, people are able to set
their own date too.
Choose your own route and receive your very own ‘event in a box’ containing
everything you need to enjoy the Longfield Reindeer Romp:. Sign up today by going
to www.longfield.org.uk/Event/longfield-reindeer-romp.
Help If We Can
th
Armistice Day is Wednesday 11 November. There is a Service at Quedgeley War
Memorial at 10:45am which Help if we Can helps to organise each year and wreaths are
placed. The Service is being conducted by the Reverend Canon Hugh Broad who is
taking over from our Chaplain (Rev Canon John Ward) who is retiring. Immediately after
the Covid Memorial is being dedicated. This memorial is in remembrance of all those in
the Quedgeley, Hardwicke area who have passed away due to the pandemic.
A protracted research has been going on into the ‘plane crash in Quedgeley in 1940
when a Blenheim Mk1 Bomber with engine failure was heading into the school (now no
longer there) which had just started afternoon lessons. The heroic Pilot, Flight
Lieutenant Robert Coventry, ordered his crew to bail out and he stayed struggling with
the controls and the plane crashed into Clearwater Farm killing him. Memorialisation is
being looked into and there is a working Committee in being. To date we have the
identification of two pupils in the school at the time. If you know anyone else please do
let me know. We are grateful to RAF Records, the CWGC and the BBC for their help.
th
There is a quiz planned for December 18 .
