Reading Across the Curriculum
Our students have been getting back into the swing of our Reading for Pleasure and Multimodal reading sessions this half term in guidance. How lovely it has been to get reading again with our Year 7 and year 8 students, engage with topical books, explore together through discussion and connect with the British value of mutual respect! Our Year 7s have been reading ‘True Sisters’ by Keren David and our Year 8s have been enjoying ‘Mind the Gap’ by Phil Earle. Reading hasn’t just been in the form of books this half term... Year 9 and 10 have been getting to grips with multimodal reading in the form of graphs, video, dance, music and much more related to their PSHE content. The sessions are building reading skills that are not only applicable across the curriculum but importantly, for the future! Bringing our students together in meaningful discussion through our of all things literacy and reading is just what we love to do.

Transition - Year 6 to Year 7
The Academy are very excited to welcome all Year 6 students who have a place with us for September 2021. We continue to increase the intake from feeder primary schools and are oversubscribed. Arnold Hill offers a range of Induction Sessions through June and July which will offer students experiences across curriculum areas as well as being able to participate in team building and sporting activities. This includes our Technology Team Build and the Transition Sporting Trophy event.

 Teaching & Learning
We are pleased to share with parents and carers some of the fantastic training opportunities our teachers and teaching support staff have been working on this year. All teaching staff have been carrying out evidence- based research around memory and knowledge retention which they are using to improve lessons and learning for all students. Arnold Hill are also linked with the George Spencer Teaching School Alliance and Derby Research school. This affords our staff a range of best practice and training opportunities. We are really seeing the benefits of the training across our classrooms.

Curriculum Update for September 2021
The Academy are pleased to announce some exciting changes to the Key Stage 3 curriculum from September 2021. In response to the pandemic and also developments at a national level, Arnold Hill will be moving to a three-year Key Stage 3- Years 7 to 9. Students will study a broad range of National Curriculum subjects in Year 7, 8, 9. This includes Spanish and French in Year 7 and moving to one language of choice in Year 8 and 9. Students will also study Humanities, Science, English, maths, PE, Computer Science, Arts, Design and Technology and V.O.I.C.E. Year 9 will still act as ‘bridge’ between Key Stage 3 and 4 as students will start transitioning to more Key Stage 4 style learning from February half-term in year 9. We are pleased to be able to offer IT skills through many areas of the curriculum and some students will be invited to study Computer Science as a twilight session. Some students will be invited to take part in our new dual-linguist programme which will mean they can study an additional language as a twilight. More information will follow in the summer term.
Please be reminded of our curriculum information webpage where you can find details of all areas of the curriculum including where the curriculum at Arnold Hill links with our feeder primaries at Key Stage 1 and 2. http://arnoldhillacademy.co.uk/curriculum/.
