Mr McEwan Goes the Extra Mile...
In a nutshell – I will be riding my bike for a minimum of 10 miles every day for 365 days. You can see how many days I’ve done here (currently 205 as of 05/03!): https://www.lovetoride.net/cyclescheme/user_ profiles/541398?locale=en-GB
I’ve faced flat tyres, snow, rain and the wind. There has been sun, too, and I’ve learned to love my daily cycle, enjoying amazing sunrises - but most importantly the time to switch off.
It has always been my intention to raise money whilst doing this challenge and the amazing causes I am fundraising for are below.
The Samaritans has stayed open during the pandemic and the Nottingham branch needs donations to keep it going and to help support anyone who needs to talk during moments of distress and despair.
Base 51’s mission is to enable young people to reach their potential through educational attainment, employability, creativity and good health. It does tremendous work for the children of Nottingham.
Mesopotamia is another local charity that strives to help those in need. Their mission is to feed those who are hungry and clothe those who are cold.
I am not an athlete but like the idea of pushing myself for a year. No cheat days or working it out on an average, every day I am out on the bike. Wish me luck! And if you want to sponsor me - thank you.

Monday 5th: Easter Monday
The Brilliant Club & Ambition Nottingham
We would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate the Year 9 Brilliant Club students for their engagement, participation and completion of the University programme. The programme enables students to work with a PhD Tutor, take part in lecture-style sessions and learn new skills around an unfamiliar topic. It helps to raise aspiration, support informed choices for the future and offers an insight into University life and opportunities. Well done everyone, we look forward to celebrating your achievements.
Our Year 10 Brilliant Club students have completed the programme with their Tutor and are now getting ready to submit their 2000 word essays by the 7th April – good luck all and thank you for your enthusiasm and contribution to the programme, despite it being delivered virtually. You have made us very proud and we look forward to celebrating your achievements with you too. WELL DONE!
Miss Roberts and Miss Foster
I am pleased to announce that after the Easter break, the Ambition Nottingham programme will continue and I will be in contact with those students enrolled when we return to school. Year 11 students took part in their final session in October. Our Year 10 Ambition students took part in a virtual session before the Christmas break and an additional opportunity has been extended to all year 10 students and families, who have been invited to attend virtual sessions throughout March and April, to provide information about University.
Our Year 8 and 9 Ambition students will take part in their sessions after Easter. We have also arranged for a workshop to be delivered to some of our Year 8 students in June, which will support confidence building and oracy skills. So, an exciting opportunity ahead to help raise aspiration and support informed choices for the future. I look forward to seeing everyone in the upcoming sessions.
Miss Roberts
