Syllabus for Media Literacy Course
Course Title: Media Literacy
Course Description: Media Literacy is an introductory course designed to develop
critical thinking and analytical skills necessary to navigate and engage with various
forms of media. The course aims to enhance students' understanding of media
messages, their production processes, and their impact on society. Through a
combination of theoretical concepts, practical exercises, and real-world examples,
students will explore key aspects of media literacy, including media analysis, media
production, ethical considerations, and media's role in shaping public opinion.
Course Objectives are to teach students to be able to:
Define media literacy and understand its importance in today's society.
Analyze and critically evaluate media messages, including news articles,
advertisements, films, and social media content.
Identify and understand different media formats, platforms, and technologies.
Recognize the role of media in shaping public opinion, values, and beliefs.
Understand the production processes behind various media forms, including
journalism, advertising, and entertainment.
Evaluate the credibility and reliability of media sources.
Develop effective media consumption habits and strategies.
Engage in ethical and responsible media practices, including digital citizenship
and online safety.
Create media content using appropriate tools and techniques.
