Eric Pearson
Member: Cornhusker ACT Chapter 88 Nominated for: Executive Vice President
Hello everyone, My name is Eric Pearson. I was born in November of 1968 in what some call the heartland of America, but to me it was a small town in north eastern Nebraska called Wausa. At a young age my mother and father put me to work on our farm outside of town which taught me the work ethic that you have to work for what you get in life and nothing comes easy. We would go to town often which at that time had a little over 700 people. Everyone knew everyone and we were all family, we all looked out for one another and helped everyone out because we all lived the same life style. This instilled the values that would lead eventually lead me to join the Armed Forces. I grew up with soldiers living in my town who served in both world war 1 and 2, the Korean war and the Vietnam war. This lead me to join the Army in 1986 as a junior in high school. I felt it was my time to do my part to serve my community, my country and my family. Fast forward a few years and have had a great career as I see retirement on the horizon. I can look back and smile as I am now a Master Sergeant in one of the greatest organizations on this planet, The Army National Guard! I have now also been A Federal Technician for 17 years and counting. Not long after becoming a member of the technician force I saw the value in the Union. At the time I joined The Association of Civilian Technicians was still somewhat of a new organization in our state as we had not that long ago switched to the A.C.T. from another Union that did nothing for us. Since then I have become more active as every year progresses. I started as a member, attended training to become a steward and am now the vice president of fair practices, which is only my current officer title as I have held many through the years. With all that said, at this year’s 2018 National Rally I received the Charles J. Collins Award which was a very rewarding and humbling experience for me as I did not expect it. My current A.C.T. Union President said he was only recognizing me for my mentorship, recruiting efforts and initiative within the Cornhusker 88 A.C.T. Chapter. Throughout the years I have only done was I felt was right. In the military and part of the technician force and being part of the A.C.T national chapter I have felt that same family feeling as I did growing up in that small town so many years ago. As an ACT officer holder, I have been part of many contract negotiations, taken part in more I & I bargaining meetings than I can count and handled more possible ULP’s and Grievance’s than I can put into this bio. I believe we are all human and in reference to the previous sentence, many of these ULP’s and possible grievances have been handled at a lower level so they did not need to be elevated, none the less, some had to be and I have done that as well. This is a direct reflection and an example of what my younger year’s instilled in me. We are all a family, we are all technicians and being humble and having humility is how we should all live. Simply put, I have held many positions with in the technician force, within OUR ACT union and regardless of the accomplishments I have held, My greatest joy comes from helping my fellow man, molding the next generation and genuinely doing what’s right. Faith, Duty and Dignity is something that I learned long before this organization, however, I fully support it at its core because this is how I grew up and this is how I have lived my whole life and will to continue to do. Have a great day!
