EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT
Weldon Lee Hedrick
Member: Texas Lone Star ACT #100 Nominated for: Executive Vice President
My full time position is Surface Maintenance Mechanic at Unit Training and Equipment Site #1 in Powderly, Texas. I am currently serving as the Chapter President for Texas Army. When I took over as President we had 48 members and I got that number back up to 80; at one point. I had to recruit new stewards and get our representative numbers back up to a working number. Texas has historically been a very animus state due to it being a right to work state, and I am slowly changing that mentality. I have successfully filed many grievances and made our Union presence known once again. I have argued towards having multiple Techs reinstated, or removal actions reduced to Letter of Reprimand or thrown out entirely. I was asked by some police friends of mine to consult their local Law Enforcement Union on ways to negotiate with their management successfully; the meeting was held in May 2017. I have negotiated a new Collective Bargaining Agreement that is effective April 2018 that hadn’t been negotiated since 2003. Above all I truly love the job we do, and have seen the best and worst of both management and employees. I am all about what is fair and right by the law. I want to work towards making the whole program better and have a larger impact than just Texas.

Dear Friends, I would like to first “Thank You” for the opportunity that I have had to serve you these last few years as your regional VP. I am running for the position of Regional VP again and would appreciate your vote. My twenty years as a member have lead me to talk to more Senators and Representatives than I can count. My positions as chapter president, vice president, legislative representative, treasurer, steward and as your Regional VP for ACT National have all helped me in one way or another to accomplish our mutual goal, which is to be treated fairly and equitably in the work place and to hold management accountable when we need to.
I have had the privilege of meeting so many new folks as well as enjoying seeing the “seasoned” veterans who have been around longer than me to share their experiences with all our younger up and coming members. Their advice and guidance are an invaluable resource to us all as a reminder to what our founding fathers have had to endure when they started ACT 58 years ago.
There have been a number of challenges through out the years that we (as National VP’s) have had to overcome and more are on the way I’m sure. I wish to continue to be of service to all of you and meet these challenges head on as they come at us one by one. Nothing comes easy and staying involved and up to date on all of this takes time, knowledge and skill that I have learned while acting your National VP over my tenure here.
I look forward to serving you again for another three years and hope that you entrust in me your vote in our next election. Things are ever changing, and nothing looks like it’s going to slow down anytime soon. I want to meet these challenges and I want you to know that I appreciate all that you do for our great organization and our fellow technicians.
