ZOOMIN FOR BUGS

Agood start is essential in a 250-yard race, and Zoomin For Bugs got exactly that when he won the $50,000 Flying Breed Stakes for Louisiana-breds at Delta Downs on July 11.

For Bugs covered the distance in :12.967 to earn a season-best 96 speed index and his first career stakes victory. Randy Hebert prepped the 3-year-old geld- ing for owner Joan Rood of Roanoke, Louisiana.
All told, Zoomin For Bugs has won five of 12 races, and the $30,000 winner’s share of the purse from his first stakes score pushed his bankroll to $131,480. His resume includes a second-place fin- ish in the $93,898 Mardi Gras Derby at Louisiana Downs on March 14.
Zoomin For Bugs was bred by Dennis Miller
of Deville, Louisiana. The gelding is one of two winners from as many starters produced by Toast To Bugs, a homebred winning 9-year-old daugh-
ter of ’96 Champion Toast To Dash. The gelding traces back to his third dam, graded stakes winner A Second Glance.
Jess Good Lookin (Heza Fast Dash-Mornin Jess), the 2-1 favorite, ran second a neck behind Zoomin For Bugs. John Hamilton rode the graded stakes placed 4-year-old gelding for owner Lori Johnson and trainer Michael Taylor.
Joel Galindo’s Scoopies Leaving You (Coronas Leaving You-Ms Scoopies Toast) finished third. The stakes-winning 4-year-old colt was ridden by Donald Watson for trainer Kevin Broussard.

JLS BOOK OF PSALMS

JLS Book Of Psalms led at every call en route to his first stakes victory in the $50,000 Live Oak Stakes for Louisiana-breds at Delta Downs on July 11. Ridden by Patrick Watson, JLS Book Of Psalms made his 870-yard trip in :46.900 while defeating Class Of 59 by 1-length. Roy Roberts trained the homebred 4-year-old gelding for owner JLS Speed Horse Ranch Inc. of Opelousas, Louisiana.
Raced exclusively in Louisiana, JLS Book Of Psalms has won four of 14 outs and has earned $103,379. The gelding was coming off of a second- place finish in the 870-yard Virgil Bond Stakes at Delta Downs on June 5.
JLS Book Of Psalms is one of five winners from six starters foaled by multiple winner & 3-time Graded stakes finalist Psalmist. The mare has produced the earners of nearly $1.2 million, includ- ing 2010 Champion 2-Year-Old Gelding JLS Mr Bigtime, a 1/2-brother to JLS Book Of Psalms who has won three graded stakes for Louisiana-breds, and was second in the 2010 All American Futurity-G1 at Ruidoso Downs.
Class of 59 (First Prize Perry-Runish) ran second for owner Joan Rood, who was the Delta Downs’ meet leading owner by number of wins. The 4-year- old gelding was ridden by Garrett Medina for trainer Randy Hebert.
Keepn It Kool (First To Shine-Kool K.J.) finished third. Danny Eldridge prepped and Donell Blake rode the 6-year-old sorrel gelding for David Lee Vance.
Heza Fast Corridor (Heza Fast Dash-Classic Corridor), Downtown Forrest (Beau Brummel SA-Cece Chicado Classic), First Corona Prize (First Prize Perry-Raise A Corona), McM Zuper Man (Heza Fast Dash-Oh Shez Zuper), and 3-2 favorite TF Corona N Passion (Too Tough To Catch-Pick Your Passion) completed the order of finish.

BLUES FAVORITE FISH

Orlando Baldillez rode Blues Favorite Fish, a 6-1 longshot in a field of seven state-bred 2-year- olds, to the filly’s first stakes victory in the $50,000

Guillory of Alexandria, Louisiana, Blues Favorite Fish went 350 yards in :17.535 and posted a lifetime- best 90 speed index. The filly’s margin of victory was a neck from Heisa Hot Ticket. Jess Blueby Lena, the 2-1 favorite, ran third, 3/4-lengths behind the winner.
Blues Favorite Fish’s Louisiana Juvenile victory marked her third consecutive win. All told, she has won three of four outs, and the $30,000 winner’s share of the purse pushed her bankroll to $55,200. Blues Favorite Fish was coming off of a neck victory in one of 11 Lee Berwick Memorial Futurity-RG1 trials on June 20.
Blues Favorite Fish was bred by Carl Guillory Jr. of Lecompte, Louisiana. The filly is the first winner produced by winner Two Left Rings. The mare is the dam of 100% money earners from her first three starters. Blues Favorite Fish’s third dam, Comingforth, was a mutliple stakes winner at Los Alamitos from 1976-77.
Charles Boudreaux Jr.’s Heisa Hot Ticket (Coronas Leaving You-Hottesticketintown) was ridden by Donald Watson for trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr. Acquired by his owner for $21,000 at last year’s LQHBA Yearling Sale, the gelding has earned $49,138 from four races.
Jess Blueby Lena (Jess Louisiana Blue-Call Me Lenas Girl) was saddled by Martin Trejo for owner Rosalio Espinosa. David Alvarez rode the colt.
Carry On Game (Game Patriot-Carry On Tee) was 4th and was followed by Ricky Rockstar (Heza Fast Dash-Streakin Angelica), An American Outlaw (American Runaway-Cherished Times) & TF Magical Fritz (Fearless Fritz-MB Magic Abajo).
