KERRYS SPECIAL CROWN
by Michael Compton
Humberto Amaro’s Kerrys Special Crown notched the first stakes win of his career on July 2 with
a game victory in the $34,500 Par-A-Dice Stakes at
Delta Downs. The 300-yard test for 3-year-olds and older horses seeking their initial stakes win attracted a field of seven runners, including race favorite The Notradamus, who had kept the best company enter- ing the race.
With Martin Rubalcava riding Kerrys Special Crown, the sorrel gelding broke smartly and dueled with The Notradamus away from the gate. Despite drifting out late, the 16-1 long shot put the favorite away and finished strongly to prevail by a neck over a fast-closing Allizoom and jockey David Alvarez at the finish. Little Blue Dove and Raul Ramirez Jr. got up to finish third, just a head in front of The Notradamus in fourth.
Kerrys Special Crown stopped the timer in :15.401 over a fast track and earned a speed index of 89 for trainer Carlos Saldivar. The win improved the four year old’s slate to 14-5-2-0 and boosted his bankroll to $103,030.
Kerry Vallet bred Kerrys Special Crown in Louisiana out of Prissy Lege. A two-time winner during her racing career, the mare finished fifth in 2003 Mardi Gras Futurity-RG2 at Fair Grounds. Kerrys Special Crown is her first winner and stakes winner from two starters.
Runner-up Allizoom(First Prize Perry-Lett Her Zoom) races for Ana Lilia Alvidrez and is conditioned by Martin Trejo. Arnoldo Gallegos owns 3rd-place finisher Little Blue Dove (Jess Louisiana Blue-Hurried Connection), who is trained by Martin Gallegos. Followed by The Notradamus (Dashin Bye-Fast N Smooth), The Eagle Express (One Famous Eagle-Rustys Quickid), Jessjingling (Swingin Jess-Jetajing) & Best On the Planet (Best Advice-Planetary Ferry-TB). Runaway Dove, Voncitas Game & Zihuatanejo scratched.
Jaguar Rocket Stakes
BV I KNOW YOU RIDER
by John Moorehouse
BV I Know You Rider is off to a perfect start in his racing career, and he continued that run with a 1 1/2-length triumph in the $132,700 Jaguar Rocket
Stakes held July 4 at Indiana Grand Race Course.
A two-year-old gelding, BV I Know You Rider now
holds 3 wins in as many starts, though this marked his first victory in stakes company. The gelding already has a bankroll over $82,000, with the $72,985 prize from this race representing the vast majority of that sum.
Home-bred by Bella Vista Farms, BV I Know You Rider was the heavy favorite in the Jaguar Rocket, facing less than even-money odds at post time after winning his June 12 trial by a length
for the fastest qualifying time. The gelding met those lofty expectations in the final, building a 1 1/2-length lead by the time he entered the stretch and maintaining that advantage when he reached the finish line without any of the competitors mounting a tangible challenge to his status as leader.
Trainer Randy Smith prepped BV I Know You Rider for his stakes-winning 300-yard trip, which took :15.553 for a 97 speed index. Juan Guerrero was aboard.
Bella Vista Farms also homebred the dam of BV I Know You Rider, BV Carbon Copy, a race winner before producing her 1st starter in BV I Know You Rider.
In a DH for 2nd were a pair of longshots: Ima Country Rooster (Country Chicks Man-Dashingly Annie), under Jose Beltran for Ron Bollman & Dicky Wayne Benton, who is also the trainer; and Im A Little Country (Bono Jazz-Country Spirits), under Rodney Prescott for Owen Stanley Jr. and trainer Matt
Frazier. Followed by Maranatha Is Coming (Bono Jazz-Smooch And Run), Dooley Tempted (Tempting Dash-Dooley M Good), Wranglinflyinhigher
(Built Jesse-Shine On Carolina), Freighttrain Gold (Freighttrain B-Ima Task Also), James Del Rey (Ivory James-Stolia Del Rey), Rags Ta Cash (Ragazzo-Zalyx) & Sixes A Flyn (Desirio-Triple Six Center).
Heartland Futurity
WOOP DEE DOO
by John Moorehouse
Woop Dee Doo was a commanding favorite in the Heartland Futurity, going off at 1-10 odds at post time. The gelding lived up to the hype, win- ning the $82,320 stakes with ease on July 4 at Indiana Grand Race Course. Woop Dee Doo finished the 300yards in :15.348, setting a new stakes record.
Ricardo Martinez owns and trains Woop Dee Doo, who collected his second win in four starts and his first victory in stakes company. He also holds a runner-up finish in the Oklahoma Futurity Invitational, held in March at Remington Park. Jockey Cristian Esqueda was aboard. Martinez and Esqueda pooled their efforts to tally three wins on the nine-race Independence Day card, including a victory in the Bradford Stakes.
The young gelding made a clean break from the outside of the 8-horse field and found his groove after just a few strides, leaving the competition behind. He led by 1 1/2-lengths by the time he entered the stretch and continued to pull away, sporting a 2 3/4-length separation as he hit the wire. Woop Dee Doo logged a 105 speed index, his second straight in triple digits, and brought home a $45,276 payday for Martinez. The gelding’s total earnings now stand at $59,864.
John Andreini & Vince Genco bred Woop Dee Doo out of Jess Racy Eyes, whom they also own. The mare has 4 starters from 6 foals, including 2013 Oklahoma Futurity winner Fetching Beauty.
BP Valiant Policy (Valiant Hero-CC Policy) was 2nd under Rodney Prescott for Bill B. Price & trainer Randy Haffner. WRS Hava Cupcake (Carters Cartel- Hava Zevi) was 3rd under Juan Guerro for Williams Racing Stables, Inc. & trainer Randy Smith. Followed by Rock This Candy Tree (Oak Tree Special-Send Me The Candy), Rock Candy Sa (Good Reason Sa-Send Me The Candy), Stolis Meltdown (Stoli-Ebony Woman), Jesse Native Bunny (Built Jesse-Lil Dancing Bunny) & Jumpn Corona (Jumpn-Royal Repertoire). Easy Jet Eye & The Louisiana Jewel scratched.
