This sixteenth edition of the Jodys Glory Classic, in honor of the runner and stallion, contained 9 participants. The qualifying races were on June 14 and the finals on July 5 at a distance of 350 yards. All of the participants were two-year-olds bred in the United States that were competing for a prize of 331,500 pesos (US $22,100 approximately).
Being runners that are starting to shape their racing career, there is little to say about the trials except for the filly Saz Saz Zoo and the colt Strength N Honor, who came in first and second in their heat, respectively. However, the fastest time was established by the filly Fast Prize Robin with :17.270.
The final race was preceded by a torrential downpour that left the track muddy and under a persistent drizzle that cooled the ambient temperature. Horses and riders paraded wet before the public in an arena where puddles were already forming.
Betting odds were concentrated on Fast Prize Robyn and Strength N Honor, because
in addition to the good skills shown in the first stage, they run for Cuadra El Manantial and in the odds are considered as one (entry 1 and 1A).
Following the withdrawal of the colt Pile Of Money in the days before, the 9 finalists took their starting positions and promptly began their fast break. The chestnut filly Idillyc (#3) took the lead of the group on the inside; Saz
Saz Zoo (#4) also moved with purpose but first went left and then right, making a foul on Fast Prize Robin; he continued his race diagonally, ending up on the right bank where Rg Golden King moved with vigor and speed, rushed in the final yards by Mario Alberto Lopez.
The finish line’s crossing between Idillyc and Rg Golden King looked close. After moments of uncertainty, the photo fin-
ish revealed the result and the chestnut colt was decreed the winner by a nose in front of Idillyc, with Saz Saz Zoo in third. Saz Saz Zoo disqualified by the stewardess, however, giving her place to the colt Love Zoomin. The win- ning time was :17.53 for an 87 speed index.
Afterward came the photo session in the winner’s circle for the team and supporters of Rancho Las Gaviotas, as this is the first victory in a clasico for both the cuadra and for trainer Alfredo Rabanal Salinas, who said with emo- tion, “Today’s win is the realization of several years of effort and dedication. I thank God, my family and those who have contributed to it.”
Remember Me Rose race;
in 2012 they took second in the Inaugural and Velocidad Clasicos, both with the gelding This Lil Contender; in 2014 they were second in the Garañones Futurity with the filly Rg Nicky Horse; and on May 17, 2015, they took the consolation race of the Mexico Futurity with Rg Malefika Cartel.
Rg Golden King is native
to Texas, bred by Hodnett Quarter Horses, who consigned him to the 2014 Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale in Oklahoma (Hip 8), where he
was purchased by the experienced Veterinarian Rachuán Suarez Kuri. He was brought to Cordoba, Veracruz, where he was acquired in December 2014 with the association formed among Alfredo Rabanal Salinas, Gabriela Cardenas, and Luis Prieto Zamudio, becoming a part of the Rancho Las Gaviotas located in Zacatepec de Hidalgo, State of Morelos.
“The colt’s talent facilitated his taming and learning of the basics needed for running. His work at the racetrack reported a remarkable speed, despite being easily distracted. We tried debuting him on April 19 in the qualifiers for the The Prize Clasico, but he was scratched due to a poor horseshoe fitting that injured the left hoof. Finally, he hit the track on May 24, coming in third place after an unfortunate departure,” reported the enthusiastic rider and trainer of 34 years, originally from Valle de Santiago, Guanajuato.
In the qualifiers of the Jodys Glory Classic, he qualified with 17.363 seconds (SI 92), the third fastest time, with rider Alejandro Gomez. For
the finals, it was decided that Mario Alberto Lopez would ride due to increased coordina- tion and concentration that was observed inside the gates and to the contribution of Dr. Alejandro Mena, a natural handling therapy specialist.
A son of Stel Corona out of Damoney (by Mr Eye Opener), Rg Golden King returned to the finals in excellent physical and mental shape. The race
was not easy due to the quality of the opposition and the track’s condition. “To run in such a way for a two-year-old colt on this surface requires very good genetics and class, as well as excellent preparation and the conduction of the rider,” said an experienced horseman after watching the race.
Rg Golden King credited to his account 198,900 pesos (approximately US $13,260), totaling 206,208 pesos (US $13,747) in his nascent sporting career.
Idillyc (Pool - Cymbidian) made a great race and collected the prize for second place in favor of Cuadra San Lazaro de Arara, under the guidance of Moises González García. She was saddled by trainer Everardo Flores.
Third place went to the colt Love Zoomin (Jess Zoomin - Love Cartel) of Rancho Las Gavias, who is trained by Angel Gustavo Magdaleno. He was directed by Diego Benitez.
Also participating in the classic: Strength N Honor (Corona Cartel – Meddlin Mischief), Hard Justice (One Sweet Jess – Blushing Lady Bug), Fast Prize Robin (Carters Cartel – Fast Prize Doll),
Saz Saz Zoo (Carters Cartel – Zentropa), Skye
