 The photo on page 175 shows 1988 APHA World Champion, Champion 3 Year Old and Champion 3-Year-Old Colt Dr Beduino (Beduino TB-Time To Shu QH). Owned by Victor Villareal, Dr Beduino began his racing career at three and raced until he was four. Bred by Bill Levine and Gordon Steinmiller, Dr Beduino won seven races from 18 starts, including the 1988 Creek Nation Handicap. He was also second in the 1988 Oklahoma Paint Maturity and 1989 Ruidoso Paint Invitational, third in the 1988 Trail of Tears Handicap, fourth in
the 1989 Firecracker Handicap, fifth in the 1988 APHA National Championship Maturity and a finalist in the 1988 Firecracker Handicap and 1989 APHA National Championship Maturity. After his career on the track, he went on to sire 19 winners from 55 starters with $212,024 in combined earnings, including one Quarter Horse. His top performers are 1996 APHA Champion Aged Gelding Royal Beduino, who won the 1995 Paint Stallion Breeders Association Derby, and 1999 APHA Champion 2-Year-Old Filly Many Ohs.

 Jerry Nicodemus Passes Away
Famed American Quarter Horse jockey Jerry “Nic” Nicodemus passed away on Jan. 30. During his career, Nicodemus rode multiple Champions and won 1,252 races from 6,317 races with nearly $19 million in earnings. He is AQHA’s 28th all-time leading jockey. Riding Dash For Cash
in all but two of the stallion’s 25 starts, the pair are memorialized in a bronze statue standing at the AQHA headquarters in Amarillo, Texas, as well as at Four Sixes Ranch in Guthrie, Texas. Nicodemus retired in 1993 and was inducted into the Ruidoso Hall of Fame in 2004 as well as into the AQHA Hall of Fame in 2009. He is survived by many family members and friends.

Champion Furyofthewind died at
the age of 16 after complications from colic. Owned by Copper Spring Ranch, Furyofthewind stood at Robicheaux Ranch the last four years. Bred and raced by Kirk M. Goodfellow, Furyofthewind won three of 19 starts, including the California Derby Challenge-G3. He was a finalist in the Golden State Derby-G1, AQHA Derby Challenge Championship-G1, El Primero Del Ano Derby-G1, California Juvenile Challenge-G3, Rheudasil Handicap and Whosleavingwho Handicap. He is the sire of 175 winners from 10 crops, including Champion Brace For Bernal Furyofthewind was buried at Robicheaux Ranch.
