Owner Roy Kent Perkins and trainer Ray Enlow couldn’t ask for a better-behaved horse than RP Live Wire Dash. Not only is the Paint gelding a sweet horse, he’ll do anything asked of him. Couple that with incredible racing talent, and he’s just about perfect.
“This is a real quiet and nice horse,” said Enlow. “Sometimes he’s so quiet, I wonder if he’s gonna be ready at race time.”
Perkins bred RP Live Wire Dash in Texas by crossing his homebred Quarter Horse mare RP Miss Reckess Dash with CRM Livewire, a leading Paint sire.
RP Live Wire Dash showed promise from the time he was a foal. Dean Hoffman, who breaks babies for Perkins, told the owner, “This baby right here is going to be the best you ever put on the ground here.”
Throughout 2018, RP Live Wire Dash finished first in seven of 10 starts with two seconds. He was disqualified from one of those first-place finishes for bearing out, but that still left him with victories in three major futurities and four trials.
“This horse has a lot of grit,” said Enlow. “If he can eyeball a horse in front of him, he will run him down.”
RP Live Wire Dash began his career by winning his trial for the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 at Remington Park, qualifying the second fastest. In the final, he overtook fastest-qualifier Cap Attack to grab the victory by a neck.
After a trial win and second in the final of the PSBA American Paint Classic Futurity-G1 and a second in an allowance race at Fair Meadows, RP Live Wire Dash added wins in his trial and final of the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 at Tulsa Fair Meadows.
“If you ask him to just jump over a fence, he would do it,” Perkins said after that race.
Moving on to Will Rogers Downs, RP Live Wire Dash again was the fastest qualifier, this time for the Pot O’ Gold Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1. He repeated in the final, winning by 1 1/4-lengths as the 11-10 favorite.
RP Live Wire Dash was disqualified for interference when finishing first in his trial for the Speedhorse Lone Star Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1. Otherwise, he undoubtedly would have given a good account of himself in the final.
RP Live Wire Dash won seven races in 2018, including the Grade 1 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity.
