hird time was the charm for CM Boom Shakalaka
in the $16,400 Mail Tribune Handicap at Grants Pass. Runner-up in the 350-yard dash the previous two years, CM Book Shakalaka broke through with a determined score in this year’s renewal on June 25 in his seasonal bow.
Luis Gonzalez had the 8-year-old gelding on his toes at the break and the pair broke with the front flight after the start. They dueled with L Bar D Mistr Cartel early and forged to the front in the lane. Putting that rival away, CM Boom Shakalaka edged clear late to win by a 1/2-length in the end as the 2-1 favorite, stopping the timer in :17.413, which earned a 98 speed index.

Fame mare Mi Fames A Dandy. The Mail Tribune Handicap victory improved his record to 41-15-8-3 and the $8,200 winner’s share of the purse raised his bankroll to $220,842. Numbered among his wins are victories in the Bank of America Emerald Downs Championship Challenge and the Bank of America Grants Pass Championship Challenge.
Runner-up L Bar D Mistr Cartel (Majestic Cartel-Fly Misty Fly) broke out and bumped and ran gamely to finish 2nd under Santiago Jimenez. The 4-year-old gelding is an Oregon homebred for Linda & Darrell Sanders and is trained by Hector Magallanes. Multiple stakes-placed Approval Given (Kiddy Up-Just Checking) flashed early speed and held 3rd for jockey Jose Guerrero. The 6-year-old gelding, who was bred
in California by Ed Allred, is owned by Boardshorts Stables & is trained by Emilio Guerrero. Warhock (Zoomin For Bux-Copa Show Girl), Fast Movin Freight (Freighttrain B-Real Queen Like It), GC Harrys Game (Carters Cartel-Ez Gamer), Fierce Heart (Fly Chisolm Fly-Crank N Fierce), and Super Bowl Sunny Day (PYC Prize Time-Holland Last Star) followed.

ar from the race favorite, M E Jessie Relent won
the $19,375 Roche Equine Veterinary Services Futurity on June 18 at Jerome County Fair.
Under stakes winning jockey Eric Ayala, the two- year-old bay filly finished the 350 yards in :17.940 for a hand-timed speed index of 94.
M E Jessie Relent broke second from the two-gate and had a head lead by the first call. She sported a neck lead at the top of the stretch, and then finished with that same margin of victory.
The home bred filly rolled in a winner’s share of $9,300 for breeders and owners David Merritt and Kim Newman. She now boasts total career earnings of $11,008.
She ran wire-to-wire in her trial for the Roche Equine Veterinary Services Futurity on June 4, winning the event by 2 1/4-lengths and she took the fourth fastest qualifying time.
She also took second in her first out in a 300- yard maiden race at Pocatello Downs on May 13.
All in all, M E Jessie Relent has made three starts with two victories and one second
place finish.
M E Jessie Relent was foaled in Idaho and is out of Kool Sweet Jess. The 2014 mare won one race from three starts in the consolation to the Dixie Downs Futurity.
M E Jessie Relent has had a very healthy start to her career under trainer Jarrett Mills.
Walking Thru (Bodacious Dash-Awesome Gift) was ridden under the hand of jockey Mark Jasso. The filly gave a solid effort, finishing second for owner Miguel Camacho and trainer Ramiro Fregoso. The sorrel filly won her maiden on May 13 by 1 1/4 lengths, and she finished second in ther June 4 trial heat by a head. Walking Thru is a 1/2-sister to Graded stakes winner Sky Bo Dash.
Carlo Rossi (Mr Piloto-Lynda With A Y) and jockey Luis Delgado came in third, beating out the next horse by a head for owner Eduardo Robles. The sorrel gelding is trained by Ramiro Fregoso and placed second in his trial run. Carlo Rossi is a 1/2-brother to multiple Graded stakes winner Mpshinning.
The rest of the field placed as follows: Separate Kisses (Separatist-Kiss A Kardashian) was fourth, then M E Easy Jet This (EC Jet One-Ettago This), Spunkky (Open Me A Corona-Woodys Injun), Mz Paquita (El Damazo- Asian Dawn). Lc Iona Cartel was scratched by veterinarian. This race was hand timed.

lackwater Cartel acquired his first win of the
season in the $16,600 Five Livestock Company/ Rod Mills Memorial Derby on June 18 at Jerome County Fair.
Jockey Jose Borbonio and Blackwater Cartel broke second from the inside post. Borbonio breezed the three-year-old gray colt down the fast track, taking the lead at the first call and he held on in
the stretch. From there, the colt steadily increased his margin, finishing in front of the next horse by 1/2-length.
Blackwater Cartel covered the 350 yards in :17.620 for a speed index of 104.
The colt secured the winner’s share of $7,968 for owners Edilberto, Luis and Salvador Gomez, raising his total career earnings to $9,386.
Racing solely in Idaho thus far, Blackwater Cartel is trained by Luis Gomez and has finished in the money twice this season.
Previously, the colt was a finalist in the 2023 Gary & Sherilyn Blatner Derby, and the 2022 Crush The Curve Futurity.
Blackwater Cartel was bred by Klay Hinck out of Rf Mucho Dinero, a winner of one of fourt starts in her Old South Futurity trial in 2018. The mare is a 1/2-sister to Graded stakes winner Gold Heart Eagle V.
Blackwater Cartel is a 1/2-brother to Mountain Top Futurity winner Daddysqueenofalice.
Whooz Ya Daddy (Big Daddy Cartel-Shi D Anna) won her trial by 3/4-lengths after a rough start. The filly, under jockey Eric Ayala, gave
a solid effort and came in second by a neck for owners Cody Allred and Livestock Keller. Whooz Ya Daddy is trained by Freddy Olmos and placed second in the BHS Futurity last May.
Owned and trained by Cesar Luna, Ethan (Fast Prize Cartel-Perryczech) held strong in third under jockey Jesus Flores. Ethan is a 1/2-brother to multiple Graded stakes placed mare Matilda Czech. Previously, the gelding was fourth in the Roche Equine Veterinary Services Futurity and was a finalist in the Crush The Curve Fururity Consolation.
Completing the field was Connors Cartel (Sizzlin Cartel-RTM Lunch Money), Jackies Famous Girl (One Famous Eagle-This Dash Is Flying), Streakin Wes (Panama Wes-Streakin Zestfully), First Corona Magic (Mountian Magic- DDS Corona Prospect), Hawks Interest (Seperate Interest-Hawk Three).
