The Prize Ferarri sprinted to a 3/4-length win in the $21,840 Iron Horse Maturity at Weber Downs on May 27.
The Prize Ferarri covered 350-yards in :17.781. Jesus Canales rode the son of The Louisiana Cartel for owners RTM Stables, Robin Dunn, Kevin Dunn and Bryon Goody, and trainer Mark Hanson.
The Prize Ferrari was making his first start since Sept. 24, when he scored a 3/4-length victory in a 400-yard, $10,000 open-condition allowance race
at Pocatello Downs. Campaigned in four states, the gelding has won 15 of 22 starts, including six of nine at the 350 trip, and the $9,172 winner’s share of this purse from his fifth career stakes victory increased his bankroll to $139,366.
The Prize Ferarri was bred by Weetona Stanley out of lightly raced Ferarri Fast Prize. She has produced 21 winners from 30 starters, including top earner Ferrari James, winner of 14 stakes races.
The Prize Ferarri’s second dam, the homebred Heza Fast Man mare Fast First Prize, won the ’02 Heritage Place Futurity-G1. Fast First Prize produced Fast Prize Zoom, a half-sister to Ferarri Fast Prize who won the 2008 West Texas Futurity-G1.
VF Give Me A Prize (First Prize Stanley-Red Temptress) finished second. Julio de la Torre rode the 4-year-old colt for owner/trainer Lynn McNeely.
