2019 Record: 7-4(1)-1-1(1), $401,388, Texas Cl. D.-G1, 3rd All American D.-G1, 4th Ruidoso D.-G1.
Flying Cowboy 123 became the first millionaire for Paragon Farms, going over that magic number in the final race of his career, the Texas Classic Derby-G1. It was a fitting finale in more ways than raising his bankroll to $1,045,811. He completed a Texas Classic Futurity/Derby double, headed off to stud after the win, and sealed a second Championship Award.
Flying Cowboy 123 won the 2018 title of Champion 2-Year-Old Colt. He repeated in 2019 as Champion 3-Year-Old Colt.
“I hope he does as well in the stud barn as he did on the track,” said Tom Lipar of Paragon Farms in accepting the 2019 award. “It was just as exciting—even more so—that he could come back and do that. The first time was kind of shocking. This one’s kind of sunk in a little bit more, and I appreciate it a little bit more.” Carolyn Bay bred Flying Cowboy 123 in Michigan. The colt is by Apollitical Jess and out of Hot Cash 123, who was honored at the awards ceremony as a Dam of Distinction. The mare has also produced World Champion Cold Cash 123, Paint World Champion I Do One Two Three, and 2019 stakes winner Tough Dynasty 123.
Marty Powers consigned Flying Cowboy 123 at the 2017 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. Paragon Farms bought him there for $100,000. Powers sold two yearlings out of Hot Cash 123 for Bay at the 2019 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, getting $170,000 and $112,000.
Flying Cowboy 123 spent the first part
of his 3-year-old season at Ruidoso Downs. He qualified the third fastest for the All American Derby-G1 with an impressive 2 3/4-length victory in his trial, and finished third in the final.
At Lone Star Park, Flying Cowboy 123 qualified the fastest for jockey Ricky Ramirez
in his Texas Classic Derby trial. In the final, with Ramirez again aboard, Flying Cowboy 123 stormed home to win by a 1/2-length.
Lipar is looking forward to Flying Cowboy 123’s new career at stud. He plans to breed several mares to the 2-time Champion, who is standing at Bob Moore Farms in Norman, Oklahoma.
