WHO YOU KNOW
by John Moorehouse
After two near-misses in stakes company, Who You Know captured that elusive futurity victory, winning the $115,831 Mile High Futurity at Arapahoe Park on Aug. 14.
Fourth fastest qualifier Who You Know finished second in her July 29 trial heat, post- ing the fourth fastest qualifying time. The filly came on strong late, taking first place in the Mile High by 1 1/4-lengths
under jockey Stormy Smith.
Thomas H. Bradbury and John D. Hammes home-bred Who You Know, who now has two victories and $75,858 in earnings with the addition of this $46,332 payday.
Hammes also trains Who You Know, who finished the 400-yard out in :20.045, for an 86 speed index.
A two-year-old filly, Who You Know has raced almost
exclusively at the Colorado track, making six of her seven starts there—including third- place finishes in both the Cherry Creek and Rocky Mountain futurities.
Who You Know joined her dam, Shazooms Doll, in black type. Bradbury and Hammes also home-bred the mare, who won the 2007 run- nings of the Cherry Creek and Rocky Mountain
futurities—highlights in a 20-race career that included six victories and more than $92,000 in prize money and a career best speed index of 103.
As a broodmare, Shazooms Doll has produced 100% money earners from 14 starters to date out of 18 total off- spring. Who You Know is now the second stakes winner out of her dam, joining New Track Record setter Kuhl Wave.
Another Hammes trainee, Cherry Creek Futurity
winner In Kuh Hoots (One Dashing Eagle- Forever Bradgelina), placed second. Bradbury co-owns the gelding along with Thomas Bradbury, Jr., and Lisa Beauprez. Alfredo Triana, Jr., did the riding.
Patrick Swan and Carry Allred own Rocky Mountain Futurity winner Bout Tree Fiddy (Ivory James-Hollie Jollie), who finished third and who is trained by Tomey Swan and had Russell Vicchrilli aboard.
Rarest Ivory (Ivory James-Rarest Daisy), Cubeta de Coronas (Stel Corona-Seis Star Glitter), In My Dust (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Sheza Fast Dasher), Tilt James (Ivory James-Okey Design), Flyin And Takin
Cash (Flyin Together-Cash Is Nice) and Alegendinmytime (Carters Cartel-Sixarun Bug) completed the order of finish. Dash Down Dancer scratched.

 Retama Park Derby
POLITICALLY CORRUPT
by Michael Compton
There was nothing fraudulent about Politically Corrupt’s narrow victory in the $175,700 Retama Park Derby at Retama Park on July 30.
Politically Corrupt won his July 16 trial and was the 8th fastest qualifier. Sent off at odds of 16-1, he wasn’t afforded much chance in the 9-horse field. In the end, Double H Racing Investment’s sorrel gelding proved faster than his foes in the
main event.
With jockey Cipriano Vidana riding for trainer Jose Sanchez, Politically Corrupt raced in the back
of the pack early in the 400- yard fixture. He flew home late to edge fastest qualifier Octonaut and Esgar Ramirez at the finish, winning by a nose in :19.874. The winner’s final time earned a speed index of 97.
It was the initial stakes win for Politically Corrupt who improved his record to 12-5- 2-3. The $70,280 winner’s share increased his bankroll to $95,218. Earlier this season, Politically Corrupt earned his first blacktype, finishing third in the Old South Derby at Delta Downs on May 13.
Bred in Texas by Andrew M. Gardiner, Politically Corrupt is produced from the
stakes-winning mare Adorable Deer. A 3-time win- ner from 19 lifetime starts, Adorable Deer captured the 2000 Jack Clifford Stakes at Sacramento, finished second in that year’s Solano Derby
at Solano, and third in the Stockton Derby at Stockton. She is the dam of six winners from seven starters, and Politically Corrupt is her first stakes winner.
Octonaut (First Down
Dash-Trick And Fun TB) grabbed the lead in the lane and was just nipped at the wire. The sorrel gelding, a 2-time winner, is owned by Julian Gamez and is conditioned by Rolando Almanza. Miss Aguilar (Tres Seis-First Dashin Bye) bobbled at the start and rallied gamely to finish third under Luis Vivanvo. The bay filly, a winner of her July 16 trial heat, is owned by Joel Tipton and trained by Jose Sanchez.
Especial Cartel (The Louisiana Cartel-I
Be Dazzlen), The Ram Cartel (The Louisiana Cartel-Jos Jody O Toole), GYR Jammer (Apollitical Jess-Confession Session), Apollitical Wave (Apollitical Jess-Wave Running), Countryfied Man (Country Chicks Man-Fovee) and Tee Chic (Jumpn-First
Down Tee) completed the order of finish. Mr Effortless Reign was scratched.
