Oneida County Fair Futurity
DUCK DASH N GO
by Dillon Hamilton
Alight crosswind and competitive field couldn’t stop Duck Dash N Go from setting a New Track Record, extending her winning streak while taking the $28,000 Oneida County Fair Futurity for nominated and qualified two year olds on Aug. 14.
The bay filly won her third race in a row, destroying the field in her two previous outings and doing the same in this stakes event.
The Oneida County Fair Futurity finals were business as usual for Duck Dash N Go after winning her futurity trial with ease in wire-to-wire fashion by 3-lengths on Aug. 6.
The filly broke first from the eight-post in the finals. She quickly pulled away and stretched her lead to 1-length for a wire-to-wire win.
Duck Dash N Go covered the 300-yard distance in :15.050 and earned a career-high speed index
of 111. With this stakes winning effort, she broke the old track record of :15.134 that was set by BCR Never Too Late on Aug. 15, 2010 - one day before the old record’s sixth anniversary.
Eric Alaya jockeyed Duck Dash N Go for their third win together. The pair remains undefeated for owner Vicente Treyes and trainer Monty Arrossa.
The Oneida County Fair Futurity $12,600 win- ner’s share brought the Duck Dash N Go’s earnings to $15,090 in her first stakes victory.
Duck Dash N Go was bred by Bobby D. Cox in Oklahoma out of the Oklahoma Hi-Point Three- Year-Old Filly/2-Time New Track Record setter Duck Mea Running. The mare, who is a six-time stakes winner, has produced 100% money earners from her six starters. Duck Dash N Go is her first stakes winner.
Tacitandrun (Tack It Like a Man-Runaway Seis), broke third under Jesus Virgen, but finished strong in second 1-length behind Duck Dash N Go. Tacitandrun also won his trial heat and was the third-fastest qualifier. The gelding ended his four- race win streak with this second place finish.
Rumpled Britches (Royalties Choice-Bye Sweet Girl), gave a strong effort late under Jesus Valenzuela to finish third. The filly’s connections include owner Ed McNelis and trainer Monty Arrossa. Rumpled Britches was second in her trial heat to Tacitandrun.
Ivory Cowboy (Ivory James-Saint La Petit TB), Nightly Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Night Lines), Princess Elsa (Spit Curl Jess-First Prize Chic), CM Partners In Crime (Ivory James-Im Special Star) and fastest qualifier Thats The Favorite (Favorite Cartel-RW Red Wave) completed the order of finish.
San Marcos Handicap
THE FIELD CRICKET
by Danny Camp
Ahard knocker, that’s what they would call him on the backside. 12 wins from 47 outs for the eight-year-old gelding, including his last two in a row. His latest in the 870-yard $15,000 San Marcos Handicap at Retama Park on August 13.
The Field Cricket broke well from the 1-post under Jerry Yoakum, but after a few jumps was in danger of losing his position on the rail. When they turned for home, that’s when class, good training, and breeding took over. The Field Cricket grabbed the lead, had 2-lengths on them at the top of the stretch, and crossed the line 4 1/4-lengths in front. He stopped the clock at :47.126 and took the $8,850 first place check, which takes his total bankroll to $179,339. This is the third consectuive time The Field Cricket has won the San Marcos Handicap. The first in 2014 and then again last year. He has an additional 4 stakes win to his credit, as well as numerous stakes places.
The Field Cricket is owned by Claud R. Denson and trained by Jesse Yoakum. The gelding was bred in Texas by Mary Denson out of lightly raced Quick Lil Cricket. The mare has produced 100% money earners from five starters. Four-time Texas Hi-Point Horse The Field Cricket is her top money earner and only stakes winner.
Rider Francisco Calderon inspired Stolis Pro (Stoli-Veva Jean) to a second place finish. His team includes owner Jerry Windham and trainer G. L. Bard, Jr. The third place check went to Snowbound Cowboy (Snowbound TB-Strawberry Cartel), who is owned by Greta and Pete Guerra and trained by Manuel Vega, Jr. Luis Ruiz was in the saddle.
Followed by Corona La Jolla (Tinys First Corona-Mary La Jolla), God I Am Handsome (Time For A God-Room To Bloom TB), Give It To Shaq (Afrashad TB-Brittany Dale) and Tinys Corona Jet (Tinys First Corona-Sages Aneen).

ONE SWEET MERLOT
by Danny Camp
One Sweet Merlot won his July 30 trial heat
to the John Deere Retama Park Juvenile Challenge with a strong finish, qualifying with the
8th fastest time. And, he scored his first stakes vic- tory in much the same way in the Aug. 13 finals of the 350-yard event, which boasted a $75,870 purse.
One Sweet Merlot and Noe Villatoro stepped into the 10-post and were last from the gates when the starter pressed the button. Villatoro changed plans when his mount veered to the inside, straight- ening him quickly. The rider sat chilly for the last 50 yards of the race and the sorrel gelding flew late in the game and crossed the finish with 1/2-length to spare. They stopped the clock at :17.732 for 97 speed index. The $34,900 first place check takes One Sweet Merlot’s total bankroll to $37,050.
One Sweet Merlot is owned by David Jones and Mark C. Cowan and trained by Judd Kearl. The gelding was bred Vessels Stallion Farm LLC out
of Onemoreglassofwine, winner of the PCQHRA Breeders Derby-G3 and Elan Again Handicap. The mare has produced 100% money earners
from her three starters. Grade 1/Grade 3 finalist Boxwineizfine is her top earner, while One Sweet Merlot is her first stakes winner.
