Proposed Closure of Northlands Park Not Certain

for proposals to Horse Racing Alberta to
build, own and operate a racetrack in, or near, Edmonton, and Northlands Park may continue to race while a new track is being built. Horse Racing Alberta chair Shirley McClellan stated that they will race all breeds next year, and
will utilize whatever racing venues are avail- able including Calgary’s Century Downs, Lethbridge’s Rocky Mountain Turf Club, and Grand Prairie’s Evergreen Park.
North Dakota Ends Another Successful Meet
The North Dakota Horse Park closed out a successful season on July 31. With fans able to wager on North Dakota racing over the Internet for the first time, there were noticeable improve- ments in attendance, retail, and concessions. “Obviously, we continue to draw the fans from the region, and show that we’re a favorite part of Fargo’s summer,” said General Manager Mike Schmitz in a press release. Horse Race North Dakota stated they will apply with the North Dakota Racing Commission for a similar time and layout for 2017.
