Ronas Ryon wins the 1986 All American Futurity
Ronas Ryon brings a winner of the All American from east of the Mississippi again. He was bred by James Floyd Plummer of Alabama, who owned the horse in a partnership with Ben Benham and W. E. “Sarge” Darden, both from Florida. His trainer for the Ruidoso Triple Crown (Kansas, Rainbow, and All American Futurities) was Arnold Simmons from Mississippi.
Ronas Ryon was sired by Windy Ryon by Go Man Go. The dam of Windy Ryon was Silent Light by Dividend. The dam of Ronas Ryon was Rona Bar by Three Bargains. The dam of Rona Bar was Sand Juana by Sanddrift by Wimpy P-1. The dam of Sand Juana was Bama Paprika. Bama Paprika could be a full sister to Frontera
Sugar, the dam of Sugar Bars. Bama Paprika was out of Pete’s Spice, whose dam was Palomino DO. Some believe that Palomino DO was the same mare as the Ben Hur mare listed as the dam of Frontera Sugar. Both Pete’s Spice and Frontera Sugar were sired by Rey.
Ronas Ryon was a well-traveled racehorse. He started his race career in Florida, then on to Louisiana, and then Texas. His first trainer was part owner Sarge Darden and their major win came in the Graham Farms Futurity-G3. He went from there to New Mexico under the care of Simmons to win his trial for the Kansas Futurity and then the Futurity final itself. He came back to win his elimination trials for the

When the All American trials came around, the word was that Ronas Ryon couldn’t go the 440-yard distance for the All American. The Graham Farms Futurity and the Kansas Futurity were run at 350 yards, and the Rainbow, that he failed to qualify for, was run at 400 yards.
To get into the All American, you had to run two elimination races or trials and prove to be
one of the 10 fastest at the 440-yard distance. Ronas Ryon won both elimination trials with a final qualifying time of :21.60 as the third fastest qualifier. The fastest qualifier was Jet Go Chick, who beat him in the Rainbow Consolation, and the
