Real Wind was sired by Go With The Wind by Go Man Go, and out of Real New by Golly by Leo. Real Wind came to Ruidoso as an undefeated racehorse. She would continue her racing luck by qualifying for and winning the Rainbow Futurity. Her trainer for the Rainbow was A. D. Stowe, her co-breeder, and the jockey was Jeff Fair.
Despite the fact that she was undefeated
and the winner of the Rainbow, the Kitchen’s moved her to a new barn under the care of T. A. Walker. The problem that needed to be solved was lugging in in all of her races. The change came with a new bit and she was reshod, hoping the problem would be solved.
When the All American trials came about, Real Wind was the second fastest qualifier with a time of :21.76 behind Mr Glory Oh with a time of :21.73, and then Lord Winsalot and Comingforth as the third fastest qualifiers times of :21.77. The end of summer and beginning of fall not only brings us the All American Futurity, but it also marks the beginning of the new school year. But, that wasn’t the case in 1976 when retired teachers Elsie and J. D. Kitchens took their filly Real Wind to Ruidoso - with the All American Futurity a dream in front of them and their teaching days behind them.
Real Wind was a homebred under
the partnership of A. D. Stowe and J. D. Kitchens and the filly was owned all of her life by J. D. and his wife Elsie. J. D Kitchens was in poor health from a heart condition during the 1976 racing season and had to have a personal nurse with him the day of the All American.
