  NM Champion QH Three-Year-Old Filly
Everybuddys Talkin
(Gonna Row Sham Bo-Kat Kora, The Trader’s Echo, TB) Breed by: Eric Pineda • Owned by: Bauer Farm, LLC Trained by: Ricardo G. Armendariz
2018: 9-2-1-0 $153,151
1st – Shue Fly Stakes (RG3), Sunburst Stakes (RG3)
The brown three-year-old filly Everybuddys Talkin was worked fairly hard during her fresh- man and sophomore seasons.
She has a career total of 15 starts, with six of those made as a two year old in 2017 and the remaining nine last year. Her career record from those 15 attempts is 2-6-0 with $168,265.
Everybuddys Talkin was new to the track in 2017. The green behind her ears showed fairly prominently, and she was having just a bit of trouble bringing the entire picture into focus. When she wrapped up her freshman season, those six starts accounted for only $15,114. Her earnings barely covered her feed and vet bills, but the filly wasn’t finished.
There were two stakes victories in Every- buddys Talkin’s sophomore future.
She returned to the track in 2018 a lot smarter than when she left at the end of 2017. She headed to nine New Mexico starting gates. She concen- trated on the finish line and arrived first in Janu- ary in the RG3 Shue Fly Stakes and next in the RG3 Sunburst Stakes on March 31. She netted $153,151 with a 2-1-0 record from nine, and she was crowned Champion Three-Year-Old Filly.
Everybuddys Talkin’s pedigree combines the fa- miliar with the unfamiliar. Some of the names – Run- away Winner, Beduino and Dash for Cash on the top with Dash Ta Fame, Rime and First Down Dash on the bottom – are some of the most easily recognized personalities in the industry. That, however, is not the case for many of the remaining names.
The filly’s sire, Gonna Ro Sham Bo, lacks a familiar ring. The same holds true for the dam, Kat Kora by the TB stallion The Trader’s Echo. Famous Poet, Kat Kora’s 18-year-old dam, is another name from the shadows.
The mix of TB and QH, with the combi- nation of known and unknown individuals, resulted in pedigree success. It may also serve to bring some of those unfamiliar names into a permanent position of prominence.
NM Champion QH Three-Year-Old Colt/Gelding
Jesse Lane
(Jesse James Jr–Champagne Lane, Lanes Leinster) Bred/Owned by: MJ Farms
Trained by: James B. Padgett, II
2018: 6-3-1-0 $147,294
1st – New Mexico Classic Derby (RG2)
Now this is truly interesting!
First, there is no way on God’s green earth to argue with the undeniably, deeply rooted success quotient of Janis Spencer-Murray/Mac Murray’s far-reaching influence through their MJ Farms. The names stand in the forefront in the New Mexico categories of breeding and selling. That far-reaching influence also shows up strongly in the 2018 Champions.
Second, Jesse Lane is pure MJ. The late Jesse James Jr was a dream come-true of Mac and Janis, with Mac working hard and long to bring the stallion to their Veguita farm. He tragically died far too soon.
Third, Champagne Lane, the dam of Jesse Lane, is a family history that began in Utah and never missed a beat during its journey to New Mexico. Not only that, but the family tree represented by Champagne Lane sprouted some new, very successful branches.
Fourth, look at the pedigree of Major Bites alongside the pedigree of Jesse Lane and you’ll see just how smoothly Jesse James Jr crossed on bloodline variety, which was one of the stallion’s gifts.
Jesse James Jr was the sire of both Major Bites and Jesse Lane. With Major Bites, he crossed flawlessly on Dyna Mo Rime, who was pure Thoroughbred on the bottom. With Jesse Lane, he made the same flawless cross on one of MJ’s long-established QH female families. Jesse James Jr’s ability to make vari- ety work was one of the reasons Mac Murray wanted him.
Jesse Lane has 12 career starts, divided evenly between his freshman and sophomore seasons. The gelding’s overall record is 5-3-0 with $301,746. Interestingly, his earnings per season are also divided just about equally with $154,452 in 2017 and $147,294 in 2018.
The gelding left last year behind with a 3-1-0 tally, putting him on the board four times from six in 2018 and four times from six in 2017. It’s quite possible he’ll become a new definition for consistency.
Jesse Lane’s feature race last season was the RG2 New Mexico Classic Derby at Zia Park on November 4.
 NM Champion QH Two-Year-Old Filly
Jess Fire Chick
(Jess A Chicks-Required Fire, Walk Thru Fire) Bred by: Mike C. Abraham, Paul Blanchard Owned by: Mike C. Abraham
Trained by: Wesley Giles
2018: 6-4-0-1 $325,795
1st – Zia Futurity (RG1),
1st Mountain Top Futurity (RG3)
Two year olds just naturally generate a special, electrified anticipation. They look great but will they run? The trainer says they’re com- ing along good, but what does that really mean? And then...
Along comes a filly like Jess Fire Chick.
She’s by Jess A Chicks who’s by Chicks a Blazin, a New Mexico son of the famous Chicks Beduino. She’s a double-bred First Down Dash/ Dash For Cash, and it’s highly doubtful the industry will ever forget the magic in the Chicks Beduino/First Down Dash cross.
Required Fire, the filly’s nine-year-old dam, is by the siring “phenom” Walk Thru Fire, dis- covered in the late 1990s by California trainer Jaime Gomez.
