Leading jockey Juan Pulido had piloted The Osc Goldenboy in his first three races and was named on him again for the final. However, Pulido injured his hand and had been off his mounts for more than a week prior to the
final. Pulido won the first race on the April
30 Remington card, but he felt that he wasn’t 100% and took off his stakes mounts.
With jockey Francisco Calderon deputizing, The Osc Goldenboy came away from the gate beautifully on top. He led throughout the 330 yards, lengthening his lead as he approached the wire to win by 1 1/2-lengths. His time of :16.563 broke the previous track record for a Paint at that distance. Ms Flashy Dancer had clocked :16.602 in 2014 as the old mark.
“I give all the credit to Juan Pulido and the Carrizales crew,” said Calderon. “I knew as long as I could hang onto him, they weren’t going to catch him, as great as he left there.”
Mike and Jay Lynn Hester bred The Osc Goldenboy in Oklahoma. Sammy Hester, Mike’s late father, bred Chicks Lacerta with his wife Nadine, and raced her with partner Charles Trochta. Chicks Lacerta was named the Champion Paint Running Breeding Stock Aged Mare in 2009 and in 2010 and the overall Champion Paint Aged Horse in 2010. She earned $156,869 and won three stakes, including the 2010 Paul Harber Memorial Handicap in which she beat five-time World Champion Paint Got Country Grip.
Chicks Lacerta has produced four winners from six starters, including stakes-placed
Bar Quero. The Osc Goldenboy’s second
dam, stakes-placed Treasured Chick, has also produced Champions A S Demon and Make No Shadows. Judys Chick, the third dam, was a Champion racehorse as well as the dam of Judys Lineage, a major Paint racing sire.
De Rae Racing LLC’s homebred Hold
My Beer (CRM Livewire-Irish Vendetta QH) finished second for jockey Roman Cruz and trainer Ray Enlow. The gelding also ran second to The Osc Goldenboy in their trial.
Livewires Turnpike (CRM Livewire- Wagon On Turnpike), owned by Bryan Hawk, trained by Ty Blackwell, and ridden by Cody
Smith, finished in third place. The gelding previously won the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Juvenile.
Completing the field were RP Barracuda Dash (Barracuda-RP Miranda Dash), WL
Van Halen (MHM Hotwire-CL Trap Queen), Memories Of PYC (Little PYC-Memories Of Texas), Secret Mystic Lady (CRM Livewire- Real Easy Secret), Turnpikes Peanut (Painted Turnpike-First Down Turnpike), and U Know Im Kool (CRM Livewire-Expressions N Snow). RP Dirty Barracuda (Barracuda-RP Eye N Colours QH) was labeled as a non-starter.
