Ruth F. Barbour’s Country Boy 123 kept his perfect season intact with a wire-to-wire 1-length
victory in the $30,656 All Canadian Maturity at Ajax Downs on July 22.
Ridden by Cory Spataro for trainer Bryn Robertson, Country Boy 123 went 350 yards on a sloppy track in :17.340. The gelding posted a season-best 108 speed index and banked the $14,427 winner’s share of the purse from his fourth win in as many starts this year.
Country Boy 123 has now won 15 of 23 starts with $219,876 in earnings. The gelding has seven stakes wins, all at Ajax Downs, including last year’s All Canadian Classic Maturity.
“When I saw him bucking and playing in the walking ring, I knew he was ready to roll,” said Spataro. “He broke great out of the gate, and Countrys Comin Bac was right beside him, but within two jumps he was on his way.”
Country Boy 123 was bred by Carolyn C. Bay, who also bred 2011 World Champion Cold Cash 123 under the name of T-Bill Stables
Inc. Bay bred the gelding out of
Very Dashin 123, winner of the
2008 Texas Distaff Challenge-G3 and finalist in the AQHA Distaff Championship Challenge-G1 that same year. She has produced 100% winners from 4 starters, with Country
Boy 123 being her top earner. Countrys Comin Bac (Country
Chicks Man-Bac To Center) and Ramiro Castillo were second for owner Ralph Pearson, who also trains the gelding.
One Famous Glass (One Famous Eagle-Quick Glass) finished third under Tony Phillips for owners Carol Robertson, Jaime Robertson, & Dr. Charles Hall and trainer Bryn Robertson.
LS Prince (Louisiana Senator- Princess Sixarun) and Fiesty Icon (Sugarman Perry-Fiesty Spirit) completed the order of finish. Hickerson and Ms First Prize Pearl were scratched.
