by Heather Kear
Stripsteak was able to pull off another victory, this time in stakes company, in the $20,092
Peace Country Derby on July 29 at Evergreen Park.
Ridden by Alejandro Hernandez, the bay gelding broke fourth from the 8-gate and gained ground at each call throughout the 400 yards to cross the wire first by 3/4-length, stopping the clock in :19.779 for a 107 speed index.
Stripsteak was the fastest qualifier from the July 15 trials, winning his July 15 trial heat wire-to-wire by an impressive 2 1/2-lengths in :19.901 where he captured a 104 speed index.
Charles G. Stojan owns Stripsteak, who is trained by William Leech. The gelding brought home the $9,041 winner’s share that pushed his earnings to $25,032.
Stripsteak now has a race record of 10-6(1)-0-1 with this win marking his second consecu- tive victory. He set a New Track Record for 400 yards in :19.999 in the 2017 Canada Quarter
Horse Cup Futurity Trials at Century Downs.
Steve D. Burns DVM bred Stripsteak out of 4-time winner Ruths Chris. She has produced 100% money earners from eight starters, including top money earner Black Fryday, who scored
big this weekend, winning the July 28 Governors Cup Futurity at Los Alamitos, and Yourdarkestnitemare, who was third in the 2017 Hadley/ Giles Futurity. Stripsteak is now the second stakes winner in the brood.
True Copy (TR Dasher- Realistically) was second under Ricardo Moreno. The second fastest qualifier from the July 15 trials is
also owned by Charles G. Stojan and trained by William Leech. The filly won this year’s All Canadian Derby and last years Canada Quarter Horse Cup Futurity-G3.
JD Wagon Boss (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Elly Mae) was third. The brown colt was ridden by Blandford Stewart for owner/trainer Buckey A. Stockwell. The colt was third in his July 15 trial heat and set the ninth fastest time to the finals. JD Wagon Boss won last year’s Evergreen Park Juvenile Challenge and was second
in the John Deere Los Alamitos Juvenile Championship Challenge. He also qualified to the Ruidoso Derby Challenge-G3 earlier this year.

was followed by First Prize Cruise (First Prize Doc-Eye Cruise),
Dont Hezitate (Ivory James-Jess Brimmin To Go), Shawnee Cartel (Teller Cartel-Shawnee Royale) and Gone To Be Bright (Gone To The Mountain-DJ Bright Tarbaby.
