Leverne Perry Memorial
STONE COLD LEADER

Stone Cold Leader made it three wins in a row when he captured the $15,000 Leverne Perry Memorial Stakes at Louisiana Downs on Mar. 16. Ridden by regular jockey Rolando Pina, Stone Cold Leader took the lead shortly after the start of the 400-yard event. He won by 1 1/4-lengths, stopping the timer in :19.556 and posting a 104 speed index. Owned by Patrick Richardson, Stone Cold Leader captured the 2018 Evangeline Downs Derby and Firecracker Derby and the 2017 Gordon Mobley Futurity and QHRA of Indiana Stallion Service Auction Futurity. He also finished second in the 2018 Dash For Cash Derby-G3 and third in 2018 Old South Derby and Esplanade Stakes. In total, Stone Cold Leader has banked $435,333.
Mark Michel bred Stone Cold Leader in Indiana out of stakes-placed Sheza Classy Leader and sold the youngster for $10,500 to Joe Davis at the 2016 Indiana Quarter Horse Speed Sale. Sheza Classy Leader has also produced stakes-placed Sheza Classy Bay and Jumpn Chick.
Luis Vivanco rode Louisiana Seis (The Louisiana Cartel-Seis Passes) to second for owner Jose Espinosa and trainer Josue Huitron. Louisiana Seis ran second in the 2018 TQHA Sires’ Cup Derby.
Juan Lozano Jr.’s homebred Mystical Jess (Apollitical Jess-Traffic Juana) finished third under jockey Manuel Gutierrez and trainer Alonso Neri. The 4-year-old filly ran second in the 2018 Retama Derby Challenge and Lone Star Distaff Challenge and 2017 Retama Juvenile Challenge.

El Moro De Cumpas Derby
TEMPTINGJESS FOR LMG

Fastest qualifier from the March 2 trials, Temptingjess For LMG notched his first stakes victory in the $34,000 El Moro de Cumpas Stakes at
Rillito Park on Mar. 17.
Under Martin Osuna, the colt broke in third and
steadily gained ground throughout the 330 yards. Temptingjess For LMG dueled with Dig Deeper for the lead before pulling away to cross the wire 1-length in front.
The team completed the sprint in :16.613 to earn a 106 speed index.
Temptingjess For LMG brought home the $18,700 winner’s share of the purse for owner Tony E. Sedillo and trainer Jose Badilla Sr., boosting his total lifetime earnings to $43,125.
His race record stands at four wins out of eleven races. The colt is currently undefeated in three starts in 2019.
Schiller Ranch LLC bred Temptingjess For
LMG out of winner Jump Down Jess, a half-sister
to La Plata Stakes-G3 winner Jump Down Azoom. Temptingjess For LMG is the mare’s first starter. His second dam is Jump Down First, a full sister to stakes winners Tac It Like A Man, Flash First and Imjumpn and stakes placer A Tac First, and a half-sister to stakes winner Carters Cartel and stakes placed Tac Off.
Dig Deeper (One Sweet Jess-Halfpast Aheartbreak) was second under Jesus Osuna for owner Jesus Torres and trainer Fernando Gamez.
Be Quiet (Kiddy Up-Thinking Out Loud) and Alex Carrillo were third for owner Jesus G. Avila and trainer Eloy G Navarro.
Texas Tornadoe (Texas Icon-It’s a Dry Heat TB), Pirteville Cartel (Flair For Dancing-Buds Pretty In Blue), Higher Icon (Texas Icon-Flyhigher), Takoradi (Ivory James-All About Ease) and Ramble It On (Ima Ramblin On-Make It Special) completed the order of finish.
Moonist Handicap

He Looks Hot led at every call to win the $35,000 Moonist Handicap for aged runners at Los Alamitos on March 29. Ridden by Vinnie Bednar
for trainer Scott Willoughby and sent to post as the 5-2 second choice, He Looks Hot went 400 yards in :19.846 while defeating favorite Katies Easy Moves by a neck. The California-bred gelding banked $19,250 from his 11th win in 31 outs and sixth stakes score.
“He got away really well,” said Willoughby. “He stumbled just a tiny bit, (but) Vinnie did a great job of keeping him together and just letting him get under himself. I was happy to win this race, and I just want to keep him moving forward.”
Owned/bred by Ed Allred, the sorrel gelding was coming off a 4th-place finish in the $157,000 Brad McKinzie Winter Championship-G1 on Feb. 10. Raced exclusively at Los Alamitos, He Looks Hot has now earned $1,232,673, and his four Grade 1 wins include last year’s Robert L. Boniface Los Alamitos Invit. Champ.-G1, and the 2014 Los Alamitos Two- Million Futurity-G1. He Looks Hot is out of 2014 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Look Her Over, a multiple stakes winner/producer.
Katies Easy Moves (Maknmoves-Katie Lane Finder) was 2nd under Jesus Ayala for owners Caballo Rapido LLC & Five Livestock Company LLC and trainer Monty Arrossa. Yanque (Favorite Cartel-Red Hawk Chick) & Ruben Lozano finished in a deadheat for 3rd with Black Fryday (Favorite Cartel-Ruths Chris) and Eddie Garcia.
