DF MEDFORD
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
The National Dia del Charro Championship, in honor of Charrería, took place on Feb. 3. Eleven three year olds were enrolled, running for a purse of $487,000 pesos (approx. $25,240 US dollars), to be disputed at a distance of
350 yards. Among them were stakes winners Reacher 16, Chocazoom, First Kool Dynasty and RP Lil Brown Wagon.
Chocazoom crossed the wire first, but was disqualified and moved to sixth place. As a result, DF Medford, who ran a clean race under the command of Alejandro Gómez Díaz, was named winner of the contest.
The route lasted :17.13, which was good for a 92 speed index, and credited DF Medford with
a second victory in five starts on the track. Bred in the United States by Darling Farms, the son of Apollitical Jess is a companion of 2019 Inaugural Classic winner Litely Political at the Cuadra San Judas Tadeo. DF Medford, trained by Víctor Jarillo Sánchez, took home the $243,500 pesos (approx. $12,620 US) winner’s share of the purse.
It was a formidable start to the season for the team of Cuadra San Judas Tadeo, with their stellar runners scoring the first two classics of the season in a single day.
All On The Up (Kiddy Up-Least Of All) was second under Yair Daniel Báez Soto for owner
Cuadra Los Fratellos trainer Juan José Razo.
Reacher 16 (Inseperable-Tinys Corona Queen) and Arturo Romero were third for owner Victoria MC and trainer José Ravel Baltazar Aguilar.
Carters Calyx (Carters
Cartel-Confident Run),
Final Fantasy B (FDD
Dynasty-Sheza Lil Bituino),
Chocazoom (Azoom-Spin
The Pages), Centurion D
Master (Dash Master Jess-Ivory Riches), First Kool Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-First Kool Money), VH Ice (Valiant Hero-Icy Valentine), RP Lil Brown Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Fast Dash Tanisha) and Eyell Cartel (Teller Cartel- Eyell Fool Ya) completed the order of finish.
