Inaugural Classic
LITELY POLITICAL
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
Hipódromo de las Américas had a great attendance of fans, eager to witness the equine competitions on Feb. 2. Karen
Manzano conducted the opening ceremony, which was attended by Mexican Jockey Club Director Cristina Larrea.
It was the first of 1,400 races planned for 2019, with the meet concluding on Dec. 15 of this year.
The Inaugural Classic took place on Feb. 3, where 11 four-year-old or older participants contended at a distance of 350 yards for a prize of $499,600 pesos (approx. $25,893 US). The proven runners gathered, awakening great interest among the fans for the speed of the Quarter Horse.
After a clean start and a few yards forward, Alibaba, a freshman in Mexico, tightened
the path of JP Specially Special by moving outwards. Meanwhile, the only two females in the group, Jess She Thinks and Litely Political, were dueling it out on the outside. With her characteristic power and speed, Litely Political assumed command of the race under the direc- tion of Alejandro Gómez Díaz, with a small advantage over Jess She Thinks and finishing 3/4-lengths ahead.
The daughter of leading sire Apollitical Jess stopped the clock in :17.06, posting a 94 speed index, thus endorsing her title of American
Adult Champion awarded by the AMCCCCM for her achievements in the 2018 season.
Owners José Antonio Suárez Rodríguez and Efraín Morales “Pin” of Cuadra San Judas Tadeo expressed their full confidence in the mare they have
managed since arriving at
the aforementioned Cuadra
in Chiapas.
The Inaugural Classic
is her sixth triumph from
13 starts on the track, in
which she has also had three
second place finishes and
one third. This also repre-
sents her fifth classic, being
credited before with the José
Merced Gómez Orozco, the
first AMCM Championship,
the Chirina Glorys and
Juvenile Championship.
Litely Political, who earned
$249,800 pesos (approx. $12,947 US) for this win, was bred in the United States by Matt Dunn and was saddled by trainer Víctor Jarillo Sánchez.
Jess She Thinks (One Swatch Jess-She Thinks) took second under Juan Alberto Vallejo Ríos for owner Rancho El Surikato and trainer César Jesús Vallejo Navarrete.
Exquisite Stride (Carters Cartel-Tinys Lil Jess) and José Ángel Ambrosio Medina took third for owner Cuadra Cartas Blancas and trainer Jorge Adrián Jarillo Sánchez.
KR Galloping Ghost (One Famous Eagle-I Bee Phia), Buckshot Eagle (One Famous
Eagle-Buckshot Delight), BMS Country Willie (Apollitical Jess-BMS Moon Maid), Tempting Splash
Dash (Tempting Dash- Thebabeisback), Alibaba (Corona Cartel-This Lady Likes Cash), JP Specially Special (Specially Alluring- Sheza Special Devon), Chics Love Curls (Spit Curl Jess-First Prize Chic) and My Cousin Perry (Tres Seis-Perrys Splash N Dash) completed the order of finish.
