by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
The 250 yard Velocidad Classic was held on March 10, with ten riders competing for a prize of $417,700 pesos (approx. $21,239 US).
Mexico holds the World Record time for 250 yards, set by Allens Cash in 2012, placing special emphasis on the race.
Favorite Marney Jo was coming into
the race after winning the AQHA Distaff Challenge of Mexico, where only females par- ticipate. Now in this race, she would be mea- sured against eight males and the mare Y Paint Paris. Marney Jo achieved a good start from the 8-post under rider José Ángel Ambrosio Medina. However at the center of the track,
Y Paint Paris and Carl Fourteen were dueling for the lead, but submitted to the filly in the final stages, leaving them in second and third place, respectively, after Marney Jo clocked in at :12.87 for a 104 speed index.
The daughter of Corona Cartel out of
the mare Executive Looks, thus obtained her second victory in classics for 2019, and she is nominated for the Chirina Glorys Classic to
be held on April 7. In 2018, she did the same with her debut in the Maiden Stakes and the Félix Bañuelos Jiménez Classic. The Velocidad Classic victory is the race in which she has won by the smallest margin, since in her previous bouts she did so by more than 1-length. Her
current record is 6-4-0-0 with earnings close to 880 thousand pesos.
Raised in the United
States by McColee Land
& Livestock LLC, she
participates under the colors
of Rancho El Suspiro, located in the State of Chiapas. She is trained on site by José Guadalupe García “Lupillo” but she was officially saddled by trainer Gonzalo Bastida Pacheco.
Y Paint Paris (PYC Paint Your Wagon-First Prize Paris) was second under Francisco Javier Fernández for owner Cuadra Los Gavilanes and trainer Rubén Romo García.
Carl Fourteen (Ivory James-Sweethearts Lady), ridden by Martín Hernández Bautista, was third for owner Rancho Las Gavias trainer Ángel Gustavo Magdaleno.
Followed by Lafishingonabugsmoon (Nofishinonafullmoon–A Special Ladybug), RG General Chrome (Captain Courage–MS Eye Zoom), Dancer Fishers (Ze Dancer – Natalia Fishers), Awl In (Foose-Tahma Hawk), Hunki Dori (One Dashing Eagle-Fancys First Affair), Stoli Dash (Stoli-Fisherwoman) and Takin Six Glory (Glory Six-Takin Care) com- pleted the order of finish. KR Galloping Ghost was scratched.
premio de $417,700 pesos ($21,239 US aproxi- madamente).
