Ridden by Luis Flores-Garcia, Vintage Bourdeaux drifted in after the start and then went to the front. With horses closing on either side of him, the gelding held on by a nose for the win, stopping the timer in :19.120 for 400 yards.
Marco Flores trains Vintage Bourdeaux for the Tungsten Racing Partnership, an ownership that includes Marcelino Gonzalez. Gonzalez purchased Vintage Bourdeaux for $33,000 from breeder MJ Farms at the 2021 Ruidoso New Mexico-bred Sale.
Vintage Bourdeaux broke his maiden in his second start this year. The Derby is Vintage Bourdeaux’s fifth win in 2023 and his first stakes victory.
